Despite being designated as BYT‘s gay on staff (ahem), I often fail to fulfill my homosexual obligations. Case in point: I don’t watch Project Runway.

I like guys and all, but I’m generally not into most of them “that way.” It is rare that I’m interested enough to go out with a guy. So, if I do find myself on a date, you can bet that I’m pretty damn excited about the evening.

That is why I was a bit crushed last night when my date cut short our dinner to skip out for the season finale of Project Runway. I never thought, as a gay guy, I would get cock-blocked by Heidi Klum.

And this obsession doesn’t just occupy the gays. I once had a straight buddy tell me one weekend “Sorry guy, I can’t play football with you today. There is a Project Runway marathon on and I need to catch up.”

Last week, I met a guy out at a bar. As the night progressed, we were frequently stopped by girls asking to take their picture with us. At first I was flattered that my writing had that reach among straight women (when I was a former music columnist, I had girls slip me their number in exchange for a photo all the time). It was only the next day that someone told me that I had been out drinking with a Project Runway finalist. I wasn’t the one all those girls were after. No, Klum and her crowd had seen that I was rejected by gay men, straight men and now straight women. The lesbians must be lining up in their comfortable shoes.

Perhaps our readers can fill me in. What am I missing? Why have all my coworkers been telling me to “make it work” for more than a week now?

What are your thoughts on the Project Runway finale?
