Amélie is playing. You may want to leave America.

Also, tell all your friends to subscribe to the Chicago mailing list. We give away stuff.

THIS_WEEK_ON_BYTWe write stuff. Here’s some of that stuff from the last week that may be applicable to your preferences!

It’s fun to wear masks.

  • Annual one day rockfest Cuddlestock returns to the Empty Bottle, with sets from Swimsuit Addition, Bleach Party, Clearance, and Jollys. Good stuff.
  • Radiohead tribute band Kid A performers Ok Computer in its entirety at Subterranean.
  • Noodly experimental dudes El Ten Eleven plays Lincoln Hall, with openers Bayonne.
  • Night two of the Chicago Podcast Festival features Guys We Fucked, Kevin McDonald’s Kevin McDonald Show, It’s All True! and more at the Athenaeum, Song Exploder and Risk! at The Promontory, Filmspotting at Schubas, and more!
  • Dual album release show for a pair of weirdo rockers, Purling Hiss and AXIS:SOVA, tonight at the Hideout.
  • EDM dudes Flosstradamus play the Aragon, if that’s something you’re into.
  • Comedy titan George Lopez is at the Rosemont Theatre.
  • Instrumental rock band This Will Destroy You celebrates the anniversary of two of their landmark releases by playing through both of them tonight at Metro.
  • Electronic indie rock band Hot Chip does a DJ set at Smart Bar tonight.
  • Music Box has got a screening of the Charles Bronson classic 10 To Midnight.
  • Second of two nights worth of The Bouncing Souls at the Double Door.

  • Do some daytime stuff:
  • Get yr fill of whimsy from our #1 gif gal Amélie today at the Music Box’s screening of Amélie!
  • It’s the 25th anniversary of the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, which officially kicks off the holiday season here in Chicago.
  • Spend Local Comic Shop Day at Challengers comics (or any other Chicago’s many great comic book shops). They’ve got signings, giveaways, and more!
  • The Empty Bottle’s got a Fall Record Label Fair featuring upwards of 15 local record labels offering up their latest and greatest goods.
  • Comedy party/pancake summit The Late Late Breakfast is back at the Hideout for another depraved afternoon.
  • Schubas’ 6th annual Turkey Bowl happens today. It’s bowling but with frozen turkeys instead of bowling balls. W-o-w.
  • Steppenwolf’s 1700 Theater hosts some afternoon podcast tapings happening as a part of the Chicago Podcast Festival. Cooooooool.
  • The Ditka Dash is a thing where you and your doofy friends can dress up like Mike Ditka and then do a race at Soldier Field. They gotta do something to get people over there when the Bears aren’t playing, I guess.
