It’s Lollapalooza weekend and Paul McCartney is coming to town! He’s a Beatle!

Also, tell all your friends to subscribe to the Chicago mailing list. We just gave away Lollapalooza tickets. We give away stuff.

THIS_WEEK_ON_BYTWe write stuff. Here’s some of that stuff from the last week that may be applicable to your preferences!

  • Do some daytime stuff:
  • Time to get ready for Lollapalooza day two, if you’re going! Metallica, Sam Smith, Tame Impala, Kid Cudi, and Charli XCX are among the thousands of bands playing in Grant Park today!
  • Old Town watering hole Benchmark is offering a special Lolla pregame party complete with a bloody mary bar and shuttle rides to Grant Park.
  • Quality local blog Gapers Block hosts its annual Hot Dog Cookoff today in Schubas’ parking lot. Taste sausages from ManBQue, Monti’s, Harmony Grill and more and thrill to the astute assessments of guest judges Doug “Hot Doug’s Guy” Sohn, Bruce Kraig, Alan Lake, and Lisa White.
  • Fiesta del Sol continues today in Pilsen. Catch music from Radio Free Honduras, Banda San Guillermo, Los Crudos, and more!
  • Trendy backpack company Timbuk2 is having a sidewalk sale all weekend!
  • The city’s only all-female house DJ outdoor picnic, The Queens of House Family and Friends Picnic goes down in Calumet park all day today!
  • You into faeries? Head to Vasa Park in Elgin for the 11th annual World of Faeries festival to hang with some kindred spirits.
  • Pick up some fancy artisanal goods this AM at the Nettelhorst French Farmers Market in Boystown!
  • Edgefest, Edgewater’s neighborhood street fest, goes down today and tomorrow at N. Broadway & Thorndale. It’s like most of the other street fairs except THIS one has the traveling dog jumping competition/showcase DockDogs! Go watch dogs jump into water with style!
  • Logan Square’s gotta pretty great looking thing going for it with the Taste of Latin America this weekend, which promises “eclectic (and exotic) cuisine, live music, arts & crafts, and cooking demonstrations.” I’m sold!
  • Go to the Paper Machete this afternoon! It’s like NPR but corporeal and in a speakeasy.
  • Afternoon open mic/free pancakes/anarchic party the Late Late Breakfast returns to The Hideout this afternoon!
