- Solid show featuring Jessica Lea Mayfield, Blank Range, and Bunny at the Empty Bottle.
- The Drums and Methyl Ethel play Metro.
- Cure your red pill blues at a screening of The Matrix at the Logan Theatre.
- Andrew Pelletier and Lola Kirke coheadline a show at the Hideout.
- Doc Films at the University of Chicago is screening the extremely good movie Black Swan.
- 
Kamasi Washington is one of the most visible and accessible figures in modern jazz and you can see him live tonight with Pho at the Riviera.
- The Black Heart Procession and Sam Coomes play the Empty Bottle as a part of the venue’s ongoing 25th anniversary celebration.
- If you haven’t seen The Room you should rectify that at a nice midnight screening at the Music Box tonight!
- Hip hop producer MNDSGN headlines Schubas with an opening set from LIV.E.
- It’s the second Friday of the month which means it’s time for Pilsen’s 2nd Friday Art Walk!
- Johnnyswim and Striking Matches play the Vic.
- Catch a live taping of the popular NPR podcast Code Switch, featuring Hari Kondabolu, Eve L. Ewing, and Natalie Yvonne Moore.
- The Motet and Dopapod coheadline a show at Park West. I think this is like a jam band thing but I’m not 100% sure.
- The Mashrou’ Leila show at Lincoln Hall is extremely close to selling out as of this writing so I’d recommend you buy your tickets now if you’re interested in going!
- Catch a “sound essay” from Damon Locks at the Museum of Contemporary Art entitled “Right On, Be Free.”
- Triple bill at the Hideout’s got folk flecked rock tunes from Luke Henry, Scott Hirsch, and Minor Moon.
- Turnover, Elvis Depressedly, and Emma Ruth Rundle play a pretty stacked show at Thalia Hall tonight.

- The Museum of Contemporary Art’s got a family day, where families of all sort can get free admission and check out kid-friendly activities!
- 24 hour horror film fest The Massacre at the Patio Theatre starts today at noon! So many good movies showing at this thing, including Sleepaway Camp, Creepshow, Aliens, and many more!
- Go hit up a bunch of crowded bars on Division for The Division Street Bar Crawl if that’s something you’d be interested in doing!
- The Block Museum in Evanston hosts the 2017 Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation. Go get yr mind warped by weirdo cartoons!
- Then, night stuff:
- Extremely good (and formerly Chicago-based) comedian Joel Kim Booster’s doing two shows at Schubas tonight. The first one is sold out and the next one will be soon. Super talented local comics Fran Hoepfner and Dewayne Perkins open!
- The Hideout’s weekly Saturday night dance party celebrates the one year anniversary of oddCouple’s album Liberation with a special funtime party!
- Weirdo indie pop supergroup Mister Heavenly play Lincoln Hall with special guest Anna Burch.
- The Yawpers, The Evening Attraction, and Will Bennet & The Tells play The Hideout.
- Kaiser Tiger on Randolph’s got Dice of Doom III: a special evening of boozy giveaways and temptations of fate via a dungeonmaster’s dice.
- Cherubs, Sweet Cobra, Rash, and Masonic Wave play a heavy-duty rock show at the Empty Bottle.
- The Chicago Printers Guild Publishers Fair’s opening night party goes down at Elastic Arts tonight, with readings, trivia, music, and more!
- The Turnpike Troubadours and Charley Crockett play The Vic Theatre.
- Nick Mulvey’s Wake Up Now Tour stops thru Schubas for a show sanctioned by the indie radio folks at CHIRP.
- Felly, Trip Carter, and Trapo play a rap show at the Metro.
- Real good concert happening at Subterranean’s Downstairs space, featuring Brooklyn-based indie rock band Bethlehem Steel, plus locals Beach Bunny, Bloodsport: The Movie, The Band, and Violet Mice.
- Blitzen Trapper and Lilly Hiatt play Lincoln Hall!
- Mini-podcast festival The Fest presents a recording of The Longform Podcast featuring special guest Zoe Chace at The Hideout.
- Love + Radio’s also got a special The Fest-approved event at the Hideout. This one’s a little different, an “in-the-dark screening” of a previously unreleased episode of their cultishly beloved podcast.
- Bleachers close out a two night run at The Vic tonight (Saturday’s show was sold out, this one probably will be soon). Bishop Briggs and Amy Shark open!
- Cimmfest presents a screening of the new music doc David Bowie: The Last Five Years at the Comfort Station.
- Earthly, Domestik, and SiP play a show full of weirdo tunez at the Empty Bottle.
- The Bears and Packers play each other today at noon. On Tour Brewing’s giving you the opportunity to watch the game WHILE eating a bunch of different chilis. Niceeeeeeeeeeeee. It’s the Bears vs. Packers Chili Cook-Off!
- The Burlington’s got a show from Sound of Ceres, Advance Base, and Desert Liminal.
- Room 43 hosts a Sleigh All Day Holiday Bazaar, which hosts a slew of vendors, including some of the biggest/nicest boutiques and designers in the city.
- Longrunning indie rock warrior Ted Leo & the Pharmacists headlines Thalia Hall. Ian Sweet opens.
