Night one of the extremely stacked psych/experimental blowout Million Tongues Festival at the Empty Bottle features sets from Narita of High Rise, ONO, Itasca, Spires That In The Sunset Rise, and DJ Sister Golden Haze.
  • Living legends Dwight Twilley, Shoes, and Pezband play the Arcada Theatre in Saint Charles. This is an incredible bill!
  • Weirdo poppers Marika Hackman and The Big Moon coheadline Schubas tonight. Good ass show, y’all.
  • Camp Northerly, an “Urban Camping Experience,” where you can listen to live music, enjoy nice food and drinks from local vendors, and sleep out under the stars in a damn tent! Bring your own or rent one for the night! Wow!
  • Heavy duty rock show with a stacked as hell bill at the Hideout, featuring Fake Limbs, The Conformists, DEN, and No Men.
  • The super funny Ron Funches does standup at Thalia Hall tonight. Ron’s good!
  • Oh lord it’s time for the Chicago History Museum’s Hot Dog Fest, a celebration in honor of all things encased meats.
  • Boston rock band Vanna’s farewell tour comes through the Beat Kitchen with guests Phinehas, Ghost Key, and Backwordz.
  • Brand new art gallery devoted to video games and new media, VGA Gallery in Bucktown, celebrates its grand opening tonight!
  • Audiodream, Victories, Shy Technology, and Circus in the Sea play Subterranean tonight.
  • The Sauced night market takes over the House of Vans with a bunch of food, drink, and retail vendors. Niceeeeee
  • The Shadowboxers and Noah Kahan are both at Lincoln Hall.
  • Picnics on the Porch at the Hideout’s got a nice outdoor set from Peter Oren and local snackies.
  • It’s mid August which means it’s time for Market Days in Lakeview. Metro’s got Gods of the Nile, a Market Days Dance Party featuring DJ Isaac Esalante and more!


  • Do some daytime stuff:
  • The Empty Bottle hosts a Summer Record Label Fair, featuring a slew of Chicago-based labels offering up their various releases at unbeatable prices. Swing by and support local music (and the people who support them!).
  • The Humboldt Park Formal Garden’s got a nice hour of Gamelan music for you to vibe out to in an unbeatably beautiful setting.
  • Chicago Hot Dog Fest day two, for you sausage fans out there. Music from Robert Cornelius & Friends (a Prince tribute!), The Polkaholics, FrozenGround, and more!
  • Head to Montrose Harbor for the Stan’s Donuts 5k and Kids Dash, where you can run or walk a couple miles and then eat a donut afterwards!
  • The Bit Bash 2017, a celebration of independently created video games, comes to Revel Fulton Market today.
  • Go pick up some gently used treasures at St. Mary of Perpetual Help’s Bridgeport’s Biggest Garage Sale, happening all day today.
  • Northalsted Market Days is upon us, with a slew of food, drink, and artisanal vendors, as well as live music across 5 different stages. Catch Jody Watley, Linda Clifford, DJ Nina Flowers, MAxine Nightingale, and many, many more today!

  • Night two of the supremely cool celebration of experimental music Million Tongues Festival at the Empty Bottle’s got sets from Heron Oblivion, Charlambides, Mark Fosson, Fursaxa, and special side stage performances from Daniel Davies, Tanglewood Spaces, and Hands of Hydra.
  • MCA Day, a celebration of the life of Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, returns to Lincoln Hall, headlined as always by the all-lady Beastie tribute She’s Crafty, with sets from folks like Romeo Dance Cheetah, The Tiny Naylors, JD3, and more!
  • Men’s Room, a wild freaking party that is taking over the entirety of the Metro/Smartbar compound, features party starting sets from folks like Cupcakke, Mister Wallace vs. Kaycee Ortiz, Bearcat, and more!
  • You’ve seen the GIFs, now see the movie. Catch The Fifth Element at midnight (points! [RIP]), tonight at the Music Box!
  • Very good singer/songwriter Kevin Krauter’s playing a solo show at the Hideout tonight, with quality local opener Parent.
  • Hoofprint Workshop has an exhibition of Queer, Latinx, and Womxn artists celebrating all things subversive, transgressive, and filthy. It’s SUCIAS and you can check out the opening reception tonight.
  • Beloved Danish rock band Mew brings their Visuals tour to Park West tonight, with opener Monakr.
  • TKB: Thalia Brawl is the album release party for local rock band The Kickback, a celebration of all things Chicago rock music and indie wrestling, featuring music from The Kickbacks and Modern Vices plus matches from Chicago’s Freelance Wrestling.
  • Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires headlines Beat Kitchen, with guests Sore History and Easy Habits.
  • Ariel’s Party at the Hideout has late night DJ sets from Ariel Zetina, Jarvi, and Pat Bosman.
  • Indie pop songwriters Gordi and Hanna Ashbrook play Schubas tonight.


  • The Hideout’s got the release party for Rust Belt Chicago, a new collection of essays, poetry, journalism, and fiction from Chicago-based writers. They’ve got drink specials planned and live readings from some of the featured authors!
  • Jackson Browne and Greg Leisz play a benefit concert for Veterans for Peace at the Copernicus Center out in Jefferson Park tonight. Classic songwriter doin stuff for a great cause!
  • The Music Box’s ongoing Is It Still Funny? screening and discussion series brings you a showing of the Coen Brothers classic Raising Arizona. The answer is yes, by the way.
  • TALsounds, Suzanne Thorbe & Bonnie Jones, and Lyle-Marino-Young play a benefit at Constellation for TECHNE, a program to introduce young women to technology-based musical experimentation and improvisation! Super cool.
  • Day two of Northalsted Market Days has music from Big Freedia, 10,000 Maniacs, JC Brooks, and many more!
  • Head to Schubas for a show featuring pop songmen Jeremy Zucker and Andy Polk.
  • Get weird on your brunch today for Not Dad’s Basement, featuring a massive DJ set showcasing grimy, obscure, and overall noisy cuts from across recorded history to soundtrack your daydrinking at the Empty Bottle/Bite Cafe.
  • All good things must come to an end and it’s never been truer than with the Chicago Hot Dog Festival, wrapping things up after tonight! Music from Mike and Joe, Funkadesi, and more, with tons of hot dog vendors and other surprises!
  • Round two of the very good new stand up showcase Woke Up Stand Up has sets from Zach Boyce, Ilana Abby Gordon, Marilee, plus a very secret special guest headliner!
  • Girls Rock Chicago’s got a showcase of some of their best and brightest talent, showing off for their proud parents and loved ones today at Thalia Hall.
  • Jonathan Jackson and Enation headline Lincoln Hall with an opening set from David Paige.
  • Indie rockers Honey Radar, Petty Crimes, and Ornament play the Empty Bottle tonight.
  • Throw down with a late night screening of Enter the Dragon at the Logan Theatre! Hell yeah!
