THIS_WEEK_ON_BYTWe write stuff. Here’s some of that stuff from the last week that may be applicable to your preferences!

Too bad, asshole!

  • Do some daytime stuff:
  • Chicago Zine Fest is always a great time and completely worth checking out today! Go support some independent artists!
  • The Empty Bottle’s book club reconvenes to discuss this month’s book, My Favorite Thing is Monsters, a well-received graphic novel!
  • The York Album Project celebrates the release of their new record, Music As One, at Schubas this afternoon. Come out and check out the art created by these talented young musicians, if you’d like.
  • Disturbing, psychedelic 1933 adaptation of Alice In Wonderland screens today at the Music Box. This thing is fucked up, honestly.
  • The Promontory’s got a nice daytime mixer called Must Love Beards this afternoon, so if you’re interested in meeting some bearded folks, this may be your lucky day!!!
  • The Japanese Cultural Center on Belmont hosts a very cool looking Japanese Tea Ceremony Event, presented by the Chicago Public Library. Sip on some damn green tea!
  • The Chicago Beer Classic returns to Soldier Field, so if you like beer and want to drink it where extremely athletic men hit give each other concussions, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE, BABY!
  • The Chicago Kids and Kites Festival comes to Lincoln Park once again. Love kites, not a huge fan of kids, but this might be worth it regardless!
  • Then, night stuff:
  • All local, all heavy-duty show at the Hideout featuring ex-Disappears dudes FACS, plus Poison Arrows and Matchess.
  • Beauty Bar celebrates the 14th anniversary of the release of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ debut LP/masterpiece Fever To Tell with a special dance party, playing through the entire record before launching into a bunch of other indie dance jams.
  • Massively talented and influential artist Laurie Anderson appears at the Old Town School of Folk Music tonight.
  • Rulemaker Bill Maher is at the Chicago Theatre, taking on ALL the different politics happening these days. Can you even imagine what he’ll say? Probably some shit about Republicans, right??? Democrats, too????
  • The Great Divide, Capital Vices, RYNO, and Luca are Downstairs at Subterranean this evening!
  • Check out Mortified at Lincoln Hall for a bunch of embarrassing stories told live onstage by local writers. But act quickly if you’re interested, tickets are running low!
  • Subterranean hosts The Music Tapes’ Chicago stop of their high concept new tour, The Orbiting Human Circus!
  • Froth, Canter, and Laverne play Schubas tonight.
  • AAW Pro Wrestling puts up a wild night of indie rasslin at the Logan Square Auditorium tonight that people seem to be very excited about.
  • The Clarks and Ryan Powers and the Secret Weapons play Beat Kitchen tonight!
  • Shame celebration/comedy/storytelling show We Still Like You’s monthly Collaboraction show is happening tonight!
  • Lewis Del Mar and Anna Wise both perform at Thalia Hall tonight!
  • You can catch a freaky, brain-expanding show at the Empty Bottle tonight featuring sets from Crown Larks, ONO, Blackerface and Grun Wasser.
