FILM: Catch a screening of camp classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert live at Navy Pier in honor of Pride week! Hell yeah.

FOOD + DRINK: The folks at One Tail At A Time bring you an extremely niche vegan pop punk fundraiser, featuring meatless treats and pop punk DJ sets the OTAAT Adoption Center. Raise money and eat some damn vegan wings while moshing to embarrassing music from high school! 

FREE: California garage-poppers Peach Kelli Pop headlines a free night of rock music at the Empty Bottle, featuring special guests Poison Boys, Peach Fuzz, and one more surprise opener yet to be named. 

MUSIC: Improvisation-based classical/jazz collective Helios plays a special free show at the Commercial Club Playground Park in West Town.

OUTSIDE: Two very solid Movies in the Parks options for you tonight: Groundhog Day in Grant Park and Wonder in West Lawn Park. 

STAGE: The Next Draft Staged Readings series brings a reading of Helen Valenta’s Late to the Riots to Berger Park in Edgewater.

STAY IN: For some reason the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards are being broadcast live tonight, a Monday night. I dunno, I guess if you’re a celeb, the M-F workweek is less meaningful? Either way, this is what the worst people on your Twitter feed will be posting about tonight. 

ACTIVE: Ever wonder what it would be like to be one of those guys who can knock around some sticks on fire while like, hanging around in the park? The folks at Pyrotechniq are giving you the chance to learn! It’s the intro to double staff class.

CULTURE: Long running live lit competition Write Club is back at the Hideout with more head-to-head matchups featuring local writers debating such topics as Earth vs. Sky and Inside vs. Outside. 

FILM: The Chicago Filmmakers’ Reeling LGBTQ International Film Festival bring you a free screening of the 2005 film (which inspired the musical) Kinky Boots at Millennium Park!

FOOD + DRINK: Sleeping Village hosts the release party for 3 Sheeps Brewing’s new beer The Wolf, headlined by a live episode recording of the Few Brews Beer Club podcast, breaking down the processes that went into the creation of this new drink.

FREE: Folks you have four extremely valid options for movies in the park tonight: The Sandlot at Gill Park, Jumanji (the new one) at Ward A. Montgomery Park and Senn Playlot Park, and Justice League at Sherwood Park. 

MUSIC: Extremely smooth modern soul singer Seal headlines Ravinia, featuring special guest Rennie Adams. 

OUTSIDE: Geneva, IL’s Swedish Days kick off tonight. Head out and ride some carnival rides and enjoy some meatballs!

STAGE: Theater on the Lake in Lincoln Park hosts a performance of the provocative and thought-provoking new work entitled Blood at the Root.

STAY IN: Part two of season 5 of Drunk History starts up tonight on Comedy Central. Watch some comedy weirdoes tell historical stories while other comedy weirdoes reenact their tales!


ACTIVE: This month’s installment of the Universal Sole Taproom Run Series starts and ends at the Goose Island Tap Room on Fulton Street, to reward your 3-4 mile run with a series of nice tastings! Is there a better way to motivate your running?

CULTURE: Gallery 400 hosts a conversation between artists Yvette Mayorga and Alexandria Eregbu about their shared sources of inspiration, moderated by sociologist Xóchitl Bada. 

FILM: Two free movie screenings in two parks tonight, including The Goonies on the patio at the Chicago History Museum and Broche De Oro: Beginnings in Harrison Park. 

FOOD + DRINK: New Belgium’s Tour de Fat is almost upon us, celebrate their impending beerdom at a pre-party at Schubas tonight! Expect drink specials and giveaways all night long!

FREE: Headquarters in River North’s Savage Bingo is giving away several hundred dollars and/or tickets to this weekend’s EDM/indie rock fest Mamby on the Beach. Ya gotta go and try to win some stuff, you’d be foolish not to try.

MUSIC: The Shedd Aquarium’s summertime jazz series Jazzin at the Shedd kicks off tonight, so you can have your enjoyment of underwater beauties soundtracked by Chicago-based jazz musicians!

OUTSIDE: Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday is coming up, and in honor of his centennial, a bunch of local orgs are celebrating. For example, The Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus is featuring a performance of his choral work Chichester Psalms at Pritzker Pavilion this evening.

STAGE: Check out a performance of Studio5 Performing Arts Center’s Inside/Out, giving you exclusive access to the creative process of some of the most forward-thinking artists in Chicago.
