CULTURE: Experimental music/variety show Option at the Experimental Sound Studio has a performance from Luke Stewart and a conversation with Chicago jazz icon Ken Vandermark.

FILM: The Music Box’s Noir City film festival continues, with screenings of All My Sons and The Spiritualist tonight.

FOOD + DRINK: Secret Supper is a surprise five course meal at an unnamed restaurant from a Michelin-starred Chicago-based chef. Roll the dice and maybe get a super cool thing!

FREE: Alive One’s free weekly trivia night is giving away tickets to Riot Fest. Nice!

MUSIC: Dreamy indie pop group TOPS plays Beat Kitchen tonight with special guests The Highest Order.

OUTSIDE: Pearl Jam’s playing Wrigley Field tonight. How fun for you, if you’re a Pearl Jam fan!

STAGE: Well loved storytelling show Ladylike invites some very funny local writers and performers to share their most disgusting stories at Cafe Mustache.

STAY IN: The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards are tonight. A bunch of people will be tweeting about it, you might as well tune in.

 

ACTIVE: Start your Tuesday morning off with a free yoga session at Gallagher Way.

CULTURE: The Third Coast International Audio Festival is doing a special free preview show at the Hideout, featuring advance looks at some of the big fancy live podcast tapings coming to Chicago in the coming months.

FILM: Comfort Station’s got a screening of a series of short documentaries that riff on the subject of public art.

FOOD + DRINK: They’re tapping into a rare keg of Pilsner Urqell’s Unfiltered Unpasteurized varietal at Map Room.

FREE: Four movies in the parks screenings for you tonight: A Dog’s Purpose in McKinley Park, Annie in Haas Park, and Coco in both Ward A. Montgomery and Lawler Parks.

MUSIC: Indie rock weirdo troubadour Amen Dunes headlines Lincoln Hall, featuring an opening set from Okay Kaya.

OUTSIDE: Internet collectors of real world oddities Atlas Obscura bring u The Astonishing Architecture Boat Tour, a one of a kind cruise showing off the most unique sights in downtown Chicago.

STAGE: Check out the book launch party for Kim Brooks’ Small Animals at Women & Children First Bookstore up in Andersonville.

STAY IN: Too Stupid to Die, a new stunt show on MTV set entirely in Indiana, looks sort of like a Midwestern Jackass and it premieres tonight. Big MTV week here in your Best Weekday Bets.

 

ACTIVE: SummerDance at Humboldt Park featuring a set from DJ Agúzate gives you the chance to bust a post-work move in the dang park.

CULTURE: Weekly fish museum jazz party Jazzin’ At The Shedd is back again with both jazz music and water creatures.

FILM: They’re screening Space Jam in Gallagher Way in front of Wrigley Field tonight. Grab some snacks and sneak in some booze and enjoy a big outside showing of the Looney Tunes basketball movie

FOOD + DRINK: The Chicago Tribune’s month long Food Bowl regional cuisine festival is presenting the East Meets West dinner at NoMI with a bunch of sushi, sashimi, and more!

FREE: Movies in the Parks has Coco in Kedvale Park, Wonder Woman in Chicago Women’s Park & Gardens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi in Union Park.

MUSIC: Enjoy a Night of Modular Synthesis, the fifth annual showcase of old school analog synth music at the Empty Bottle featuring sets from Jason Soliday, Red Stripe Down, Mode Hexe, and more.

OUTSIDE: Have you went and watched the fireworks at Navy Pier lately? Do that, it’s summertime.

STAGE: Just Us Gals at Sleeping Village has live comedy and music from a bunch of local performers like Good At Bad, Alex Kumin, and Kellye Howard.

STAY IN: Have you watched that new Netflix series Magic for Humans yet? It’s supposed to be pretty good, especially if you like magic, which I do!!!
