Bottled Up are back with a new single and accompanying video for the title track off of their upcoming debut album, Crystal, out on October 16 via Maximum Pelt Records.
‘Crystal’ lives in the lo-fi static fuzz of terrestrial TV, where vague memories of music videos from the late 80s float freely and mix with LSD flashbacks and Dario Argento movies. It’s a mesmerizing mind drip that also tells a story of emotional vulnerability and turning inwards.

Bottled Up has been making waves for a few years now, constantly evolving their sound; what was once a clear marriage of proto-punk and surf rock now includes elements of shoegaze, dreampop, and psychedelia. And while the DC-based band has never been short of a guitar jangle or four, it’s no longer their primary tool and I think their songs are all the better for it, a likely consequence of some lineup changes in recent years that have brought additional influences and sensibilities into the band’s orbit. Frontman Nikhil Rao’s singing style has also shifted, with a softer delivery that adds lyrical clarity and emotional heft.
We’ve previously expressed how much love we have for them – as a band and as people – and it’s been particularly rewarding to see how their sound and subjects have matured in a way that reflects their personal journeys.
