While we advocate celebrating the Latinx community year-round, there’s some extra-special programming happening now through October 15th in honor of Latinx Heritage Month. Take NYC-based Ballet Hispánico’s virtual series, #BUnidos, for example; the free programming (which began as a way to stay connected during the pandemic) coincides with the institution’s 50th anniversary, and will include a variety of content to look forward to on the weekly this month. Here’s what to expect:
Orgullo Latino Mondays @ 3:00pm ET
In this program, Latinx leaders and influencers will share the importance of celebrating Latinx Heritage Month, and what it means to be Latinx/Latino/Latina. Announced participants include Gloria Calderon and Nina Vaca, with others TBA.
Salsa Tuesdays @ 1:00pm ET
There are tons of different salsa styles all over the world, so this program will highlight moves from Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba and New York. Featured master teachers will include Lyvan Verdecia, Luis Salgado, Ana Saoco and Wil Nieves.
Wepa Wednesdays @ 6:30pm ET
Ballet Hispánico will provide a platform to other Latinx dance companies including Bombazo Dance Company, Pajarillo Pintao, Sankofa Danzafro and Antares Danza Contemporanea to showcase Latinx dance genres from around the world. These’ll be watch party performances, and will be followed by Choreographers & Cocktails, which is a Q&A series with BH’s Artistic Director & CEO Eduardo Vilaro and the choreographers.
Tiki-Tiki Thursdays @ 6:30pm ET
Company alumni and current dancers will participate in conversations about everything from backstage stories to the history of BH.
Fiesta Fridays @ 6:30pm ET
Kids and adults will make favorite family recipes in this program; they’ll get into the history of the dish, and will also highlight the wide array of Latinx cuisine over the course of the next few weeks.
