Considering that tomorrow IS a pool day, we had to close out our Campy video series with a beach themed song, didn’t we? Now, as some of you may know, I am somewhat of a scholar of the Spice Girls opus (click that link at your own risk) as a direct result of being a teenage girl in the 90s AND going to high-school in England DURING THE HEIGHT OF THEIR WORLD DOMINATION. (which if you think was bad/amazing elsewhere, you should have seen how bad/amazing it was in the UK-pretty sure their product endorsements included every single thing I used during that time-from potato chips to toilet paper) so…
ANYWAY, long story short, THE SINGLE MOST CAMPIEST summer video ever made belongs to one Miss Geri Halliwell (AKA “Ginger Spice”) who embarked on a solo career and quickly established herself as a gay icon of that special “do I laugh at her or sing along?” variety.
“Mi Chico Latino” is a direct rip-off of Madonna’s “La Isla Bonita” and a direct predecessor to Gaga’s “Alejandro”. No words can truly describe it, you just have to see/hear it:
Take me back to my sweet la vida
Find my love my dolce vita.
Show me where I need to go.
¿Dónde está mi chico latino?
