After countless hours with a random nerd in the BYT lab using the spectrum analyzer I realized I just needed to count up the votes.  Here goes:

Alright, Still #1. Lily Allen – Alright, Still

Kathleen J. says – “An adorable, outspoken pop singer who manages to channel St. Etienne, Aaliyah, and early Liz Phair into almost every singable, radio-friendly song. Disclaimer: be sure to use the radio edit if you are actually planning to play her on the radio, she likes to say naughty words”

Return to Cookie Mountain #2. TV On The Radio – Return To Cookie Mountain

Anhvu says – “Most innovative, original album you’ll hear this year. Gets better everytime I listen to it”

The Life Pursuit #3 Belle & Sebastian – The Life Pursuit

Mia M. says – “i suck. i hate voting unless being completely informed. i need to burn your entire music collection, like, now.”

Rather Ripped #4 Sonic Youth – Rather Ripped

Rob H. says “Some people’s mileage may vary, but I really like this era of Sonic Youth. But I like songs more than hearing people playing the guitar with a doorknob or whatever, and I think they’re showing a really great melodic sense here. Who can argue with Incinerate or Pink Steam?”

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not #5 Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not

Andy K. says “blah blah blah blah ba blahhddy da da”

Fox Confessor Brings the Flood #6 Neko Case – Fox Confessor Brings the Flood

Renan S. says “makes me not so embarrassed to be an alt-country sucker – favorite of the year.”

The Warning #7 Hot Chip – The Warning

Andrew H. says “This is the heavy heavy low low bouncing around the bedroom jam… the perfect sex romp for the hipster soul…”

Night Ripper #8 Girl Talk – Night Ripper

Edward P. says “Greg Gillis is a genius. His live show at The Black Cat was amazing. I’ve never been so sweaty and drunk in my life.”

The Greatest #9 Cat Power – The Greatest

Adam S. says “I like Cat Power”

Silent Shout #10 The Knife – Silent Shout

Grace K. says “the tracks on this album could be easily played at a dance party or a haunted house. the robotic vocodered voices sing over airy synthpop beats in chilly fragile notes with eerie bjork-like meows. the album both creeps me out and calms me. this sibling duo does a good job of combining electro moog clicks and bleeps with pretty atmospheric dreamy sounds.”

Lot’s of variety in the answers, here’s a few runner-up comments:

Maria F. says “Lights Out by The Hard Tomorrows. they rock. they are fun to watch. they are HOT!  and because I’m secretly in love with them.”

Andy K. says “In Flames – Come Clarity, this to me is the best metal album of the last 5 years.”

Dave S. says “White Rose Movement: Kick… Not a good year for solid records.”

Ari R. says “I think I discovered more old albums than I did new. Be that as it may, I am going to go with “St. Elsewhere” by Gnarls Barkley.”

Peter J. says “Ratatat- Classics. Hands down. Mike Stroud is the best guitarist in decades.”

Matt Safer of The Rapture says “Love Is All–9 Times The Same Song” (he’s not a man of many words)

Rachel G. says “Birdmonster – No Midnight – Oh Im loyal to my SF boys! Funky indie pop/country infused music, tight songs. Peter has an amazing voice, while Justin on bass and David on guitar provide intensity to the songs. I could listen to this again and again. Besides if any band has more heart live, Ive yet to see it!”

Noah R. says “Jarvis – Jarvis – Have a weakness for Brit-Pop, and this man is the king. Makes me feel like doing drugs and having sex with older women.”

Zach Braff says “…..” (he didn’t reply to my email)

As for what you guys hated:

Holly T. says “The Hold Steady- Boys and Girls in America: Over-rated! Clap clap clap-clap-clap!”

Andrew H. says “Peaches – Impeach my Bush -Ick, I think I can still taste the pubes.”

Our contest winner Rob H. weighs in “Worst album of the year: I mean yeah, She Wants Revenge and DJ Shadow both sucked ass, but I’ve got to give it Jay-Z here for Kingdom Come. Ok, so what was the blueprint for the comeback album by the biggest rapper in the world? A rush job full of half-ass submissions from A-list producers (ok, Just Blaze came correct, but 4 Dr. Dre beats and they all suck?? What happened?) and totally lazy, treading-water flows and lyrics from the man himself. Glad to have you back, dude, send my regards to your new buddy Chris Martin. Ugh.”

But The Futureheads – News and Tributes got the most “disappointing” votes with She Wants Revenge a close second.  God I hate that album.
