As we mentioned already, AFI Docs 2019 is coming and there is a lot to be excited about. BYT Film Team, for one, is thrilled to be partnering with the festival to co-host a screening of the bound-to-be-amazing Miles Davis: The Birth of Cool and a Q&A with the filmmakers moderated by our own Alan Zilberman.
Landmark E Street, Saturday, June 22, 4:15 p.m.
What to expect from the movie:
One of the towering figures of 20th-century music, the jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis was the personification of cool, from his dark shades to his stylish clothes — even the way he stood on the stage as he blew his horn. Precisely because of his sleek image and enigmatic personality, Davis has eluded the kind of major documentary portrait that he deserves. Until now.
In this deeply researched, deftly constructed and uncompromisingly honest biography, master filmmaker Stanley Nelson (THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION) unpacks the Miles mystique. Nelson gives us the whole man — the son, the friend, the lover, as well as the brilliantly inventive musician who displayed his genius one note at a time. –Ken Jacobson
