Did I mention I’m going to Disney World yet?  jk.  One of my favorite childhood memories was seeing the first ever “4D” movie, Captain Eo, at Epcot Center.  If you’re not familiar, it is a short 3D sci-fi musical that opened in 1986 made by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas, and starring Michael Jackson.  The film cost $1.76 million per minute and included real lasers and smoke (the 4 in the 4D), which are now commonplace in many attractions such as this.  As a child obsessed with Star Wars, MJ, and lasers, it blew my fragile little mind.

I was ecstatic to find out that there was a successful internet petition to bring Captain Eo back, and after MJs death, Disney had finally agreed.  It opened in Feb at DisneyLand and… wait… SHIT, it doesn’t open till July 2nd at Disney World.  MY BIRTHDAY VACATION IS RUINED!!!  jk again.  I’ll live, it’s on youtube. And apparently there won’t even be real lasers this time around, but they will use the Honey I Shrunk the Audience moving seats so I guess that’s pretty cool.

Some of it is crappy, like imagine if Michael Jackson were in the new scenes from the Return of the Jedi Special Edition, but a lot of it is pretty great. Anjelica Huston as an evil borg bitch is genuinely creepy, the costumes are phenomenal, killer dance moves of course, and there were two new songs. Another Part of Me, which was eventually released on Bad, and We Are Here To Change the World, which wasn’t released until a recent box set, so it’s a relatively rare MJ track.  Listening to it again it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a song written for MJ in 1986 for a Disney movie, but after about 3 times in a row, I’m starting to get addicted…
