Saw Venus in Fur last night at Studio Theatre, and everything William said in his review was spot on. Don’t miss it.

Speaking of influences, the 1998 film Velvet Goldmine, which I only sort of remember, included a soundtrack supergroup with a jaw dropping cast of musicans such as Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, Suede’s Bernard Butler, and Roxy Music’s Andy Mackay. The name of the band was, you guessed it, The Venus in Furs. Here they are covering the early Roxy Music classic Ladytron, which is of course where the band Ladytron got their name.

So you have a book that inspired a song that inspired a movie that created a band that was named after that song, who covered a different song that had inspired another band and included vocals by a guy in yet another band whose name was inspired by a different song by yet another band that collaborated extensively with the guy that wrote the original song they were covering.
