Welcome to your super short work week. Stay dry.

Every Thursday at 9 a.m (sometimes sooner) we mail you our Best Weekend Bets. Best Weekday Bets are similar to our Best Weekend Bets but longer because we pretend Thursday is a weekday.

CULTURE: Smithsonian Folklife is hosting a talk about the intersection of music and cultural identity called “Go-Go Music, Metro PCS, and the Power of Music to Heal.”

FILM: Shaolin Jazz continues their always lovely Can I Kick It? screenings with Kung Fu Killer at Songbyrd. If you like hip-hop / martial arts / soul / anime / funk, you’re going to love it.

FOOD + DRINK: Hit up AiYa’s supper club featuring Taiwanese and Cantonese street food.

FREE: The Betty Who before / after party is at Nellie’s! It is not sold out.

MUSIC: Betty Who is at the 9:30 Club! Her show is sold out!

OUTSIDE: Catch a very free and very outdoor screening of Alien at the Adams Morgan soccer field.

STAGE: Since you can’t get tickets to Betty Who, you might as well see Deterioration, Under Attack and Needle at Slash Run.

STAY IN: Watch The Perfection on Netflix and text everyone you know to talk about how deeply weird it is. Revel in the fact that you are not alone. It is deeply weird

CULTURE: The National Center for Transgender Equality and the Transgender Law Center are hosting a Rally to Protect Trans Health at the White House.

FILM: Spanish Cinema Now+ is hosting a screening of Paco de Lucía: La Búsqueda at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain.

FOOD + DRINK: Swing by Hex for a Pagan happy hour. Can you tell it’s very witchy?

FREE: In honor of the Watching Oprah exhibition, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture is hosting a panel on millennials, news and pop culture.

MUSIC: Thelma is playing with Dove Lady and Carson Sox at Songbyrd. We like Dove Lady.

OUTSIDE: Go riding with the folks at The Bike Rack and learn all about how D.C.’s rising tides will affect our city!

STAGE: Don’t miss out on The Oresteia at the Harman Center for the Arts.

STAY IN: Spend the night borrowing ebooks from DCPL‘s online collection. They have most of the books you want! You might have to wait a little bit to read them but it is insane! Why wasn’t I doing this before? This is the future!

Come back Thursday for our Best Weekend Bets, published every week at noon. Subscribe to our Best Weekend Bets and get them at 9 a.m.

Listen to our radio show! BYT Radio hosted by Brandon Wetherbee (the person writing this) streams Thursdays at noon. Listen live. Subscribe in iTunes. Say nice things about it in iTunes. Our last few episodes have highlighted the D.C. arts community. If you like things like art and community, you may want to stream/download a few.
