At some point last week, this landed in our inbox: A BAKE SALE will be taking place at The LINE Hotel DC on September 23rd (that’s today! 3pm-7pm!-ed.). And not just any kind of bake sale – a collaborative bake sale between The LINE’s own cake king Pichet Ong and his very special guest, the pie queen herself Nicole Rucker, of Gjelina, Gjusta and Fiona fame.
The buzz surrounding their respective talents has been deafening for a while now, and to have them together, here, in D.C., baking for us – that was well, the equivalent of a dessert lovers national holiday (the actual event is on the occasion of their friendship and Nicole’s new cookbook Dappled, which will be on sale at the bake sale too-ed) and we had to invite ourselves over.
Below you’ll see a snapshot of a journey to pastry heaven, where these two allowed us behind the curtain for their fruit-forward (aaaaah, that end of summer fruit! AND A WHOLE LOT OF CITRUS) menu creation, the tiny kitchen a flurry of activity, but also filled with good vibes and humor, and if you want to fast forward to what you could just BUY today (seriously, it is totally ok to leave work at 2pm, right?) head straight to the last four photos, and we dare you to not be tempted.
