In the midst of my domestication, Molls and I rediscovered a classic. A classic that for some reason was NOT the same comedy that I saw as a child.

Tom Hanks.
Meg Ryan.
Lloyd Bridges.
Ozzie Smith.
Nathan Lane.
Abe Vigoda.

JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO

All the messages mean a little more after all these years.

Joe’s affliction, the native’s cultural mix of polynesian/jewish/latin culture, Meg Ryan’s multiple rolls as three very different, yet painfully attractive women…

I realized that I missed Joe Banks.

I know a tall girl who’d say this movie was magical.
I know a gay who’d say, “That’s funny.”
I know a lot of people who’d say they never saw the movie that way before.
I know that I was happy we took the time to see the movie as adults.

And if I’m correct, this was the first dramanticomedy that the Hanks/Ryan powerduo had together…

See it again, or see it for the first time.

Nobody knows anything, Joe. We’ll take this leap, and we’ll see. We’ll jump, and we’ll see. That’s life, right?
