Pipilotti Rist (nee Elisabeth Charlotte Rist and a big fan of Pippi Longstocking as a child) made some of her most famous videos during my tender, art tasting formative years-so no wonder I love her. Had I been born a decade earlier or later, I probably would have found a different woman exploring gender and sexuality with a sense of humor and pop culture references to look up to, but I wasn’t and Pipilotti it was.

While putting up “I’m Not a Girl Who Misses Much” (handy Beatles wink included) or her excitation special “Pickelporno” may seem like the natural choices to put up here, I was always personally, a huge fan of her “cover” work in the (fantastically, geniusly entitled) “I’m a Victim of this Song” set to Rist singing along (and later doing something between singing and screeching, pushing the voice to an extreme) to Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game”, making the already sentimental and insistent song, all the more so, to a point of the interpretation making it seem pathetic.

The images themselves are murky and nostalgic, the editing paces up and down and you cannot help but become immersed in this world of lost love and slightly sad lounges you wait for it in.
