The Sweetlife Festival will not be returning to the Merriweather. The guys are bringing it back home, to the location of the first Sweetlife, their parking lot.

We’re pleased to announce the 2017 Sweetlife Block Party: DC. The festival that began in 2010 returns home to the Sweetgreen Dupont Lot, 1919 Massachusetts Ave NW, at the corner of Massachusetts and 20th. This year’s headliner is Blood Orange. Fun fact: Blood Orange is actually a Sweetgreen customer.

When Sweetlife began Sweetgreen had two stores. Now they have 73. Rather than keep expanding the fest, they’re shining a light on their roots and other companies they enjoy. In addition to Sweetgreen, you’ll be able to enjoy food and beverages Maketto, Sir Kensington’s, Dolcezza, Paradise Springs Winery, Flying Dog Beer, Compass Coffee Nitro Cold Brew, Spindrift and Boxed Water.

When we asked Sweetgreen co-founder Nathanial Ru why he thought it was time to bring the fest back home, he had a simple explanation. “It’s actually our ten year anniversary in August. We want to celebrate this idea of intimacy and go back to our roots. These experiences are a great way to create a little bit more of a community. It’s also a way for us to use this blueprint to celebrate the idea in other cities.”

The July 15 Block Party the first of future intimate parties. Block parties aren’t typically intimate affairs, but after all day fests at Merriweather, a smaller scene in Dupont is intimate.

Maybe the most interesting aspect of the fest is the price. It’s free. Attendees are enouraged to contribute a pay-as-you-wish donation to benefit Freshfarm Markets, the D.C.-based food non-profit that has partnered with Sweetgreen for nearly their entire run.
