Adam Lambert had been teasing a big announcement on this morning’s Good Morning America. Here it is: He’s teaming up with Queen to replace Freddie Mercury as the band’s lead singer on a summer tour. And the last stop of the tour will be on Sunday, July 20 at Merriweather Post Pavillion.

Our first reaction (like you) was “WTF?!”, but our second reaction was like “Hmmm…yeah, maybe ok.” Queen actually did this a few years back with Paul Rodgers.

It’s easy to dismiss Lambert as just an American Idol runner-up. But, American Idol runners up actually do quite good for themselves (Hello Clay Aiken, Katharine McPhee, and 7th Place Winner Jennifer Hudson). More importantly, Lambert actually has talent and range far beyond what we always give him credit for. So, this could be very interesting. Yes, it could be bad. But, it could be spectacularly awesome.

Plus, we love the idea of Queen being fronted by both an ethnic Persian (Mercury) and an ethnic Jew (Lambert). It could just pull the whole world together in the gayest way possible.
