My favorite thing to do is to make recommendations. If I could give everyone in the world my phone number and have them text me whenever they needed something specific (a date night restaurant in D.C., a Czech new wave film for a casual Saturday night in). I would do it. While I love talking about food and art and fashion and music and anything else under the umbrella of pop culture, I really excel at talking about horror movies. I should have a PhD in talking about horror movies. So I’m putting my knowledge to good use and recommending at least one horror movie a day throughout the month of October. Grab my hand and let me be your guide through some spooky cinema.

Check out the past movies here.

THE MOVIE: mother!

THE STREAMING SERVICE: Hulu

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT: mother! was the movie everyone was talking about in 2017, and for good reason. No matter how you feel about actress Jennifer Lawrence, director Darren Aronofsky or the fact that Aronofsky (age 48 at the time) was dating Lawrence (age 27 at the time), this movie is a funny, frustrating, disgusting, weirdo must see. Important themes in this film include DIY house renovations, cannibalism, agents, infanticide, Jesus, house parties, murder cults and more Jesus. If you’re willing to get a little experimental and don’t mind a splash of gore, you’re in for a real treat.

I’VE ALREADY SEEN THAT MOVIE, PLEASE SIR CAN I HAVE SOME MORE?: You know me, I live to please. Tonight I think I’m going to pop on Triangle, a horror movie that seems to involve a mystery on a cruise ship? Some sort of sea-legged killer? Anyway, it’s streaming on Amazon Prime Video. I’m very fascinated by cruise ship crimes because people disappear (or go overboard) all the time and cruise lines straight up don’t care. if you’re interested in the non-fiction cruise ship crime, check out this Quartz article. It made me so mad.
