My favorite thing to do is to make recommendations. If I could give everyone in the world my phone number and have them text me whenever they needed something specific (a date night restaurant in D.C., a Czech new wave film for a casual Saturday night in). I would do it. While I love talking about food and art and fashion and music and anything else under the umbrella of pop culture, I really excel at talking about horror movies. I should have a PhD in talking about horror movies. So I’m putting my knowledge to good use and recommending at least one horror movie a day throughout the month of October. Grab my hand and let me be your guide through some spooky cinema.

Check out the past movies here.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT: I don’t think most people will actually want to watch Baskin, but it’s a surprisingly beautiful and modern interpretation into what is secretly one of my favorite horror subgenres, torture porn. Look, I can’t help it, I was in high school when the Saw movies were coming out. It is what it is. Baskin doesn’t have the most interesting plot, but it’s got some truly wild gore scenes. If you’re the kind of person that rejoices after seeing a cool kill on screen, this one’s for you.

Have any questions about the content of the movie? Does The Dog Die and Unconsenting Media are great resources for looking up spoiler free triggers before you watch this film (or any film).

I’VE ALREADY SEEN THAT MOVIE, PLEASE SIR CAN I HAVE SOME MORE?: What you may not know about me is that I love shark movies! I was deeply afraid of them as a child, so I still find a giant sea monster to be very intriguing and affecting, plus creature features tend to have killer jumpscares. Today I’m going to be watching a film that’s been on my list for a minute The Shallows, starring your gossip girl Blake Lively! If you’ve already seen that one, I’d check out Crawl (which is about giant alligators) instead. I saw that one in the theater and it was a blast.
