This is one of those drinks you make when you have a little bit left in a lot of bottles, and not enough to make anything notable.  This cocktail appeared in Charles H. Baker Jr.’s 1939 book, The Gentleman’s Companion and is refreshing, if simple.

Pompier Hiball

  • 1 1/2 oz dry vermouth
  • 3/4 oz creme de cassis

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add ingredients, and fill up with soda.  The taste makes me think of berries and quinine – not necessarily a bad thing.
