During the week, we wake up and eat our granola, our scrambled eggs, and our toast. On the weekends, we treat ourselves to brunch. Treat yourself to something sweet this weekend. Here is your best lineup for brunch foods that are basically desserts, but it’s fine because it’s the weekend and you deserve it. Your scrambled eggs will miss you a lot more than you’ll miss them, guaranteed.

Blue Duck Tavern

What better way to start out the weekend than with a coconut macaroon waffle? This beast of a waffle is topped with caramelized bananas and toasted coconut and then smothered with warm toffee sauce and drizzled with chocolate. In case you don’t already feel like you’re going to go into a sugar overload, you can add two brunch cocktails plus unlimited coffee or tea to any entree for just $12. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to brunch at a Michelin Star restaurant, this it. This is your chance.

Convivial

Picture a homemade cinnamon bun, but the size of your entire head instead of a small reasonably sized pastry. That is what you will receive when you ask for the $4 cinnamon bun from Convivial. And it is absolutely delicious and important. In case the traditional cinnamon bun isn’t enough for you, it is smothered in cream cheese icing with a dash of dark rum. Sometimes a cup of coffee, a giant pastry, and a good book are enough for brunch.

Founding Farmer’s

Maybe a local favorite is more your speed for brunch. Founding Farmer’s never disappoints with delicious breakfast and brunch options. Check out their french toast options ranging from bananas foster to maple cinnamon sugar, each stuffed full with vanilla pastry cream. Perhaps carrot cake pancakes with cream cheese icing sound good to you instead. Either way, you will absolutely find your new dessert for brunch faves here.

District Commons

Check out the toasted coconut pancakes at District Commons for the ultimate stack of craft pancakes. With a heaping mound of grilled pineapple and star anise infused agave nectar syrup, these pancakes scream summer flavors. Another absolute winner in this lineup of brunch foods that are pretty much dessert.

Commissary

Word on the street is that Commissary is serving up some of the most delicious gluten free and vegan pancakes in the city. Just because you can’t have gluten or dairy doesn’t mean that you should be excluded from getting a fat stack of pancakes with peach or blueberry compote on top for brunch (early dessert?). If regular pancakes are more your speed, you can also pick up some delicious buttermilk pancakes topped with the same toppings.
