Announced Tuesday morning, the 14th and U peaceful demonstration featuring TOB and Mental Attraction drew a large crowd and sound from 6 to 9 p.m. The rally was a show of support for the Metro PCS store currently in the news about the go-go they once played outside their store.
Support appears to be ramping up for fans of D.C.’s sound, with the Mayor Bowser and others using the #DontMuteDC hashtag on Twitter. As of this posting, the change.org petition “Don’t Mute DC’s Go-Go Music and Culture” has 58,938 signatures, nearing their goal of 75,000. Don’t expect this story or sound to quiet down this week. This Saturday’s Emancipation Day Concert and Fireworks will most likely have a larger spotlight due to the controversy.
