New York City
Next Wave: Novak and Laker @ DC Improv Lounge
In 2017, the DC Improv celebrates its 25th anniversary by remembering the past – and looking to the future. The Next Wave series features rising stars, recommended to us (and you) by some of our favorite DC Improv headliners. These are performers that comedy fans will be talking about for years to come, and this is your chance to see them up close at one of the most respected comedy venues in America. New York based comics Jacqueline Novak and Chris Laker are the very definition of “multi talented” – their comedy projects have included memoirs, podcasts, satellite radio programs, and more. Plus, they’re great and quirky stand-up comedians. They are recommended to you by a man who has been taking them on tour in 2017 … the great Mike Birbiglia!
The Time Machine Roast @ DC Improv
A (totally real and functioning) time machine has gone haywire, and famous people throughout history are being transported through time to the Dupont Underground. What happens when historical figures share a stage? They burn each other with hilarious jokes, just like the roasts you've seen on TV. Watch some of DC's favorite local comics get into character (and costume) to play the roles of history's most famous figures -- from musicians and scientists to emperors and warlords -- and roast each other right in front of you. The jokes might be mean, but they're never too soon.
Iliza Shlesinger @ DC Improv
Iliza Shlesinger is having a monster 2017. She wrapped a theater tour, continued a popular web series, launched a talk show on Freeform, and has a book coming out this fall. So how about a cherry for that sundae? This November, Iliza makes her DC Improv debut, headlining five shows as part of her national book tour.
Bert Kreischer @ DC Improv
The Bert Kreischer party train keeps picking up speed. Thanks to a Rolling Stone profile, he finished college at Florida State with a reputation as the country’s biggest party animal. He spun that into TV hosting gigs and a stand-up comedy career. Bert is always on the hunt for adventure, and he loves sharing his experiences on stage. He wrote a best-selling memoir in recent years, and his 2016 Showtime special was a smash hit.
