On this historic day in 1804, in a New Jersey town called Weehawkin (real name, we swear), one of the most famous duels in American history occurred. After years of political rivalry, Vice President Aaron Burr challenged Alexander Hamilton–leader of the Federalist Party–to a motherfuckin’ duel an “affair of honor.”
Hamilton lost, died of his injuries the next day, had his likeness placed on the ten-dollar bill and in the Department of the Treasury (where he makes it rain in spirit every day). In honor of one of our country’s most money-wise politicians and really, because we love Andy Samberg here at BYT (it’s unhealthy), here’s one of the best history references in pop culture:
“You can call us Aaron Burr from the way we’re droppin’ Hamiltons.”
