Grylls. And the CD case will double as a magnifying lens so you can start a fire when you’re stranded in the woods.

  • Spiffy says:

Odysseus, cuz it sounds sweeping and epic and it could follow naturally after titles like Horn of Plenty, Yellow House, and Veckatimest.

  • Bryan says:

Ursus arctos horribilis. We all know they’re fancy and clever enough to want to name their album after the latin name for grizzly bears.

“neon thylacines.” Surreal sounds; surreal idea.

    “River’s Yawn”

Whenever I listen to Grizzly Bear, I get this amazing, unique vibe. It’s like walking through a haunted house in broad daylight. It’s all about atmosphere: interesting, ominous, and worth exploring.

There’s something spooky, but very soothing about Dan’s music. Ed’s voice sounds like it’s filling the space of a deep cavern. Chris Taylor’s bass is constantly working at a dizzying pace, while the reeds add incredible atmosphere. To wrap it up, Chris Bear lays down some of the most beautiful jazz drum riffs in indie rock. It’s subtle, powerful, even a bit whimsical – but always meaningful.

A yawning river is something I envision during the latter-half “Sleeping Ute” – the intricate progression, Dan’s mature, yet careful tone, the feeling that every second of is teetering on a knife. It flows and fluctuates like a roaring river…

    “River’s Yawn” – get it?

black powder – b/c it’s a vintage gun powder and grizzly bear has that vintage sound going on and the new album references guns in a lot of the songs.

“Tumbleweed” has kind of a naturey feel to it and I feel like a lot of their songs have that free flowing vibe of a tumbleweed!

  • AK says:

“Cuttyhunk”! In keeping with the Elizabeth Islands naming of “Veckatimest”:

    Erring Falls

  • Moonshine says:

Erring Falls because Grizzly Bear reminds me of Autumn and that anxious feeling you begin to develop when the seasons change. Images of mountains, forest, and streams that lead to small waterfalls in the middle of nowhere. Especially with “Sleeping Ute.” I’m reminded faintly of Fleet Foxes with their folk song sound.

  • lpetrick says:

Black Powder – most of the song titles on the album deal with guns and they have such a haunting vintage sound. black powder is a gun powder that isn’t used in modern fire arms so it seems fitting for this album.

Kairos: It’s what the Greeks used to describe a passing instant when an opening appears which must be driven through with force if success is to be achieved. Funny enough it refers to an instant in time but also is used in some greek rhetoric as timelessness. There’s something supremely awesome about that.

  • deerly says:

Ivy. Their music is pretty, but it’s also haunting and stays with you for a while, like poison ivy.

  • Kalster says:

Genovese Syndrome. A haunting name to go with an eerie sound.

  • iasomie says:

    Why not title it “GOBI”?
    1. it’s an awesome sounding name that will only complement their other album names, and 2. the Gobi bear is another type of bear! Why not pay homage to their titular animal?

  • Fish says:

Dunwyn – as a nod to the animated series Gummi Bears. Dunwyn is the magic kingdom they reside in. Grizzly Bear could then also cover the theme song to include as a bonus track.

  • betsy_A says:

“Aggressive Behavior” because it works on two levels — the surface: the whole beast/wilderness/domination motif; plus, it could also be about pushing yourself artistically, taking risks, & trusting your instincts.

  • Molly says:

“Cornucopia Hornucopia” as a throw back to their first album!

  • lilyelle says:

    dusk to dusk

  • kelly says:

Just One of Them Days in honor of every picture that Ed posts on twitter.

  • Steph says:

Forest Swagger Because actually the term swag is from the middle ages and grizzly bear has like norotoriuos cred with rapers such as Jay-Z. But their music sounds like it was compsed in a forest.
