Brightest Young Things

  • “It’s that time of year for get-togethers, holiday dinners, and office soirees, however it is not always easy to choose a restaurant that is an ideal setting for a crowd.” So to help you out, the folks at EatMore DrinkMore pulled together a list of their favorite spots around DC that are perfect for dining out with a group.

  • DCist wrote to DC chefs asking them to share their holiday dishes and traditions. Read their answers here - This is How We Do: Holidays

  • Personally, I hate sweet potatoes, but apparently I'm the only one. According to the NYTimes, "Sweet potatoes have achieved a status that just a few years ago would have seemed laughable. They may even be hip." Looking to satisfy your hankering for all things sweet potato? Endless Simmer has got you covered. From sweet potato mac n' cheese to sweet potato whoopie pies, here are 100 of their favorite sweet potato recipes.

Forget about cupcakes and cheeseburgers, nowadays in DC, it's all about the seafood...

  • Woodley Park will be the new home to Las Vegas–based and Man Vs. Food-featured, Hot N Juicy Crawfish. (Prince of Petworth)

Round-Up

  • There's robot bartenders, robot ice cream vendors...and now? Robot butchers. Meet HAMDAS-R: The Knife-Wielding, Ham De-Boning Robot. Didn’t anyone see Terminator? IRobot? It's only a matter of time before HAMDAS-R goes from de-boning ham to de-boning humans. This has apocalyptic disaster written all over it.

  • Next Monday, Dec. 13, Philadelphia chef Matt Levin of Adsum will cook a four-course dinner based around Four Loko. Featured on the menu: Moroccan Lamb ‘Sausage and Peppers’ paired with Adsum’s “Loko Yoko” cocktail and “BBQ Picnic.” with Loko pearls and pickles watermelon rind, paired with Lemonade Loko.

  • Food Trucks Get a Sitcom on ABC: Family Owned. The concept: a “multigenerational family comedy” that “centers on a son who takes over the family food truck business.” Meh. I usually can't wait for anything that manages to incorporate two of my favorite things (food and TV), but this sounds pretty unexciting if you ask me.

  • I love Japan for so many reasons, this is just one of them... From Eater.com: "A Japanese fruit company ripens bananas in a room where Mozart is continuously playing; they say it results in a sweeter fruit. This is apparently a trend in Japan, where foods from 'Beethoven Bread' to sake are produced amidst classical tunes." Read more: A better banana with Mozart?
