Video of the Week: a Scottish Guy Sings “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”
November 30, 2012 | 9:00AM

The nexus in the universe where traditional Scottish balladry, anarchic theatre and free whiskey intersect is a rare one indeed, though it’s available in D.C. and not, as you might believe, in some episode of The Twilight Zone that’s been hijacked by kilt-wearing Scottish punks. “The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart,” the National Theatre of Scotland‘s touring production rife with audience participation and storytelling, is presented by the Shakespeare Theatre Company in, of all places, Bier Baron Tavern. Still sound strange?

Rarer still is the nexus where all of these meet Beyonce.

We caught up with Scottish musician, actor, story teller and performance Jack of All Trades Aly Macrae for a wee bit of Scottish folk balladry applied to modern day pop culture. My god, it was incredible.

You can purchase tickets to “The Strange Undoing of Prucencia Hart” here, running through December 9th. Check out more of Aly Macrae’s stuff here. (We recommend the pop-rock song outlining the exact length your kilt should be.)
