I can’t remember the last time that I got the opportunity to write the Video of the Day. Surely it was one of those moments long ago when Cale was getting his eyebrows waxed and couldn’t be bothered. But I finally had a reason too strong to deny, so I made appointments for pedicures for the editorial staff and grabbed the reigns once again. What could cause such excitement you might ask? Well, let me tell you boys and girls. The new album from Opossom, Electric Hawaii, has been blasting into the summer air non stop over here. THAT’S what! It’s the brainchild of Kody Nielson (many of you already groove to his brother Ruban’s band, Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and it kicks ass. Simple as that. It has also arrived with a slew of unbelievable videos for “Blue Meanies,” “Fly,” and now this one for “Getaway Tonight.”

Directed by Joel Kefali of Special Problems (responsible for clips from Tame Impala, Flying Lotus and The Naked and Famous, among others) it amps up the b-grade sci fi love. Now, you might say: “Hey John Foster, don’t you work with Fire Records, the label putting this out? You must really love this band to blur the lines as such.” To which I would reply: “There is nothing blurry about my love for Opossom.”
