Up&Up is a post that features new music with insight from the artists themselves.

ARTIST: Walt Fraze

STATE: Delaware

NEW EP: Blue

QUOTED:

“I had fun with Blue. Too much fun actually, it ended up being like 16 tracks—it was supposed to be 10. I really wanted to put it out for that back to school and end of the summer season to match the feel I was going for. I would describe Blue as really ambient sounding feel good music. I know that sounds really bland to say because everybody says that, but that’s really what I was trying to make because most of my music doesn’t sound like that.”

“100mls is kind of the title track. I don’t really remember what kind of medicine I took—some kind of pill—but it was 100 milligrams and I was all fucked up, so I wrote a song about it. I wanted the beat to match the experience I had when I was going through that.”

INDIGO (PROD BY JAY NAMCO) BY WALT FRAZE

“A lot of artist do focus on drugs and drug culture these days, but I feel like it’s always been like that though. People have always been experimenting with drugs and shit like that. Personally, I only talk about stuff that I’ve experienced because that’s where I get my inspiration from. So, a song like 100mls was just an experience for me. That wasn’t me trying to connect with a drug culture or anything like that, I feel like other artists might try to do that, but at the same time I can’t really judge or anything—I just listen.”

SHADES OF BLUE BY WALT FRAZE

I got the idea for [Shades of Blue] from that Frank Sinatra song “Blue Skies.” I kinda did my own little  version of it on the hook because I really like Frank Sinatra. I wanted to end the EP on a good note, because it started out really hard with “Morning Mist” so I thought this was the best song to end it with. Actually, it’s more of an interlude, but I wanted people to feel that it was a song—that’s just some feel good music.” - Walt Fraze
