Ticket Giveaway: Totem by Cirque du Soleil
August 13, 2012 | 10:00AM

Cirque du Soleil is pleased to announce that it will return to the D.C. area with its latest big top touring production, TOTEM, starting this Wednesday August 15th (you can still purchase tickets here, fyi). TOTEM will be performed for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at National Harbor, woo!  Tracing the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly, TOTEM illustrate, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.

TO WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS to what I can only assume will be an amazing experience… tell us who’s body of work you’d want Cirque du Soleil to interpret next.  (I mean they’ve done Darwin with Totem, Michael Jackson with The Immortal, The Beatles, Elvis….).

Me personally? I think Nirvana would be interesting.

Winners will be notified by email before Thursday, August 16th.  GOOD LUCK!!

I think it would be AWESOME for them to interpret the work of any iconic rap or hiphop artist like Biggie or Tupac….even Kanye (dont crucify me…I just think that he has a songbook that varies enough to make a show out of). I think that hip hop could mesh well with the kind of aerobatic stunts that they pull of and it would make an AWESOME experience for the viewer.

I have 2 ideas, hopefully one of them is a winner:

    1. Spooky vampire themed show with flying “bats”. Perfect for Halloween!
    2. Scary zombie themed show full of undead performers. Also perfect for Halloween.

Personally, I would love to see Björk’s body of work interpreted. I think Cirque would have so much creative freedom with this and the soundtrack would be amazing not to mention the show itself (like all Cirque shows) would be visually stunning but on a whole ‘nother level.
Of course it would be a treat to see her classics brought to life but it would be pretty awesome to see her new album Biophilia which is set to be released in September interpreted as well.
I think few would disagree that this would be a show that would be completely jaw-dropping, entertaining, and an epic experience all on its own.

  • dax says:

I heard that the Criss Angel Cirque show wasn’t very good, but they shouldn’t give up there. They should try again with a different illusionist, like Gob Bluth. Arrested Development Cirque is the way to go, for sure. Dress them up like frozen bananas. Play the Final Countdown. Denim cut offs for everyone.
