Cirque du Soleil is pleased to announce that it will return to the D.C. area with its latest big top touring production, TOTEM, starting this Wednesday August 15th (you can still purchase tickets here, fyi). TOTEM will be performed for a limited engagement under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at National Harbor, woo! Tracing the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly, TOTEM illustrate, through a visual and acrobatic language, the evolutionary progress of species. Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.
TO WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS to what I can only assume will be an amazing experience… tell us who’s body of work you’d want Cirque du Soleil to interpret next. (I mean they’ve done Darwin with Totem, Michael Jackson with The Immortal, The Beatles, Elvis….).
Me personally? I think Nirvana would be interesting.
Winners will be notified by email before Thursday, August 16th. GOOD LUCK!!

Led Zeppelin
Ween
fantasia
Ween
U2
Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness..Entire thing.
Van Gogh. Seriously. Or Edvard Munch.
I’d be thrilled to see a Miles Davis Cirque Du Soleil show!
Jerry Garcia and/or The Grateful Dead
Pink Floyd. If that and Cirque du Soleil isn’t a match made in heaven, I don’t know what is.
Meat Loaf
Dali.
The Fall.
Star Wars or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Tommy James & The Shondells would be amazing!
I think it would be AWESOME for them to interpret the work of any iconic rap or hiphop artist like Biggie or Tupac….even Kanye (dont crucify me…I just think that he has a songbook that varies enough to make a show out of). I think that hip hop could mesh well with the kind of aerobatic stunts that they pull of and it would make an AWESOME experience for the viewer.
I have 2 ideas, hopefully one of them is a winner:
1. Spooky vampire themed show with flying “bats”. Perfect for Halloween!
2. Scary zombie themed show full of undead performers. Also perfect for Halloween.
Prince!
Salvidor Dali paintings!!!
Queen
Tupac Shakur
I’d like to see Cirque du Soleil: Mr. F’s Adventures through Wee Britain.
Queen would be amazing!
Queen.
Kid A in its entirety would be incredible.
It’s got to be either Beethoven or the Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Miles Davis! This would be interesting and if they did Bitches Brew, that would be unreal! (ground breaking record)! O yeah I’ve never been to Cirque du Soleil and it would be great to check out and bring my mom! Please, pretty please…….
Coldplay
Since EDM is growing in popularity, RAVE meets Cirque du Soleil and it could look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucaVMj6F0R8
Whitney fucking Houston.
Two ideas: David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust…….or David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia. Either one would be amazing, I’m sure.
The Flaming Lips would be AWESOME!!
Queen!!! Wouldn’t that be awesome??
Queen
Marvin Gaye
Watch the Throne. Kanye and Jay-z. and watch, one day. years from one. they will.
ABBA
Pink Floyds- The Wall
Madonna! Strike a pose. LIke a Virgin.
Hesiod’s Theogony. The poem which narrates how the Gods came to be, and how they established permanent control over the cosmos. So epic.
Arabian Nights!! How great would that be? Scheherazade! Swords! Genies!
GAGA
Aladdin! (Flying carpets, man!)
It’s not a band but I think a re-imagined Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed Cirque show would be awesome. But some other more traditional options: David Bowie, The White Stripes, Madonna, Queen, Prince, Bob Marley.
Hunter S. Thompson
I agree with another poster, The Rocky Horror Picture Show would be really cool.
Katy Perry!!
Jackson Pollock
COLDPLAY!
Sigur Ros.
The Wiz
Rick James!
Romeo and Juliet
Kiss
Daft Punk
Rent
Radiohead! Or Nine Inch Nails, maybe. Has Cirque ever gone full dark depressing driving?
QUEEN !!!
Steven Strogatz’s book SYNC or Borges The Aleph
Mars// Mars Volta
Olivia Newton-John
Olympic Closing Ceremonies could have been a lot better….. Kate Bush?
Velvet underground
Brazilian Girls 1st, self titled album.
Sinatra!
Sinatra!
Kate bush since the Olympics left her out, she hasn’t toured since ’79, and her lyrical masterpieces are due for reinvention; plus it’s be the perfect Bday present in time for August 25 and to help me recover from my emergency appendix removal surgery last Thursday
Rafi.
Elton John/Billy Joel
The Cure!
Quentin Tarantino
Radiohead! There was an amazing ballet performance called Radiohead And Juliet that was beautiful, I can only imagine what cirque could do with it.
The rolling stones, because I’m just thinking of “Get Off My Cloud” being interpreted as literally as possible.
Odyssey or the Iliad
Dante’s Divine Comedy.
Motown extravaganza! Or Hendrix?
M.C.Escher, Trent Reznor, Lord of the Rings
Personally, I would love to see Björk’s body of work interpreted. I think Cirque would have so much creative freedom with this and the soundtrack would be amazing not to mention the show itself (like all Cirque shows) would be visually stunning but on a whole ‘nother level.
Of course it would be a treat to see her classics brought to life but it would be pretty awesome to see her new album Biophilia which is set to be released in September interpreted as well.
I think few would disagree that this would be a show that would be completely jaw-dropping, entertaining, and an epic experience all on its own.
I heard that the Criss Angel Cirque show wasn’t very good, but they shouldn’t give up there. They should try again with a different illusionist, like Gob Bluth. Arrested Development Cirque is the way to go, for sure. Dress them up like frozen bananas. Play the Final Countdown. Denim cut offs for everyone.
The Who!
I would love to see them do a medley of Shakespeare plays on the Cirque stage!
Yup, winner had been notified!
did you guys announce the winner?? stalking my email..
