Ticket Giveaway: Jukebox The Ghost (w/ Deleted Scenes and Spinto Band) @ 930 Club
November 28, 2011 | 2:30PM

We have spent a lot of internet ink over the last couple of years about Jukebox the Ghost’s melodic, piano and vocals going hand in hand, everything-is-just-peachy-keen (but NOT sickeningly sweet) music and now that they are coming back to town, with a new record Everything Under the Sun, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) released on Yep Roc this fall (Click here to watch a short documentary about the record). Fresh off of a European tour, Letterman appearances and more, and headlining 930 club for the first time ever this Thursday. GREAT FOR THEM (and for you).

So, we have a pair of tickets to give away and if you like music that makes you feel good about life, you want them. To enter to win, leave us a comment telling us what the most feel-good record (not song, full album in consideration here) ever made, in your opinion, is, and we’ll notify the winners by COB tomorrow. Cool? COOL.

Daft Punk’s “Discovery.” That album changed my life and always reminds me why I love life.

Clearly the best feel-good album ever is Mae’s debut release “Destination Beautiful.” Eleven tracks to leave it all behind and find something lovely.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. It makes ya feel good about feeling bad.

Well of course I want to default to Jukebox the Ghost’s “Let Live and Let Ghosts,” I spent all of last year listening to this CD and bouncing off the walls. It’s great for cleaning AND making art. But EVER in my entire collection? Every time I listen to “Warmer Corners” by The Lucksmiths in full, I get a serene sense of fulfillment, like everything is right in my life. You end it with a sigh and one of those “…huh.” feelings and walk away with a smile. Maybe it doesn’t have me moving from room to room, dusting and singing along like “LLaLG” or Foster the People’s “Torches” (this one is good for solo laundry dance parties), but it’s like going in and out of someone’s life and then coming back home to your bedroom to sit for a minute and enjoy what you have in yours. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take a record that makes me feel good for the rest of the week over a record that helps me dance through the afternoon any day. :)

I think heisindc picked a good one. That Wrens record is full on awesome. I’ve got to go with Weezer’s Pinkerton though. Sing-a-long awesome the whole way through. Runner up Flaming Lips – Clouds Taste Metallic…I mean it’s got Kim’s Watermellon Gun on it for goodness sake!

    Can’t decide:

Celine Dion: These Are The Special Times (Christmas album)
—Is it my favorite album ever? No. But you CANNOT listen to it and not feel empowered to face the world (and to face Michigan winters :)

    Freelance Whales: Weathervanes
—Who doesn’t get addicted to a harmonium-banjo-glockenspiel combo?

    Hanson: The Walk
    —Don’t hate.

They Might be Giants – Here Come the ABC’s – for reminding me of a time when the most important thing I had to do was nap, play, and art and the number one item on my learning agenda was ‘sharing’. Also, because it contains tracks promoting the ultimate superiority of the letter E, poses timeless riddles like ‘who put the alphabet in alphabetical order?’ and highlights the craziness of our phonemic symbols (letter/not a letter)

The Life Pursuit by Belle and Sebastian

  • Moonshine says:

The Sundays’ “Static and Silence” is one of the most “feel good about life” albums I have ever listened to! During my care free youthful days these songs reminded me how to stay calm and quiet despite the chaos that is puberty. Each song brings me to a hill top where I reflect on love, childhood, siblings, and family.

It’s a toss-up between the Elf soundtrack and Rumours (Fleetwood Mac) for me. Oh, and the Mamma Mia (the movie) soundtrack.

AMERICAN BEAUTY -GRATEFUL DEAD (I turn into a hippie when I wanna feel good)

  • Nate says:

“Getz/Gilberto” is always an album that makes me feel good about life every time I hear it.

  • heisindc says:

    The Wrens – The Meadowlands
Soft happy tunes also with some indie headbanging “get the stress out”, song for every occasion.

  • Nate says:

Yelle’s Pop Up always cheers me up. I don’t really know what she’s saying, but she sounds pretty happy.

  • Amanduh says:

Come Dance with Me! – Frank Sinatra

I smile like a kid on Christmas every time I hear this album.
