On September 7th, join the Arts Coalition for the Dupont Underground for a Fundraiser:
- DUPONT UNDERGROUND — ABOVEGROUND
- EASTERN MARKET MAIN HALL
- 225 7TH STREET SE, WASHINGTON DC
The evening which is intended to help fundraise for activation of the fabled DUPONT UNDERGROUND space is looking pretty jazzy:
- > Live musical performances presented by DC Setlist: Alex Minoff, Margot MacDonald, Justin Jones Band
- > World premiere of Robin Bell and DC Setlist music videos from the Underground.
- > Raffle prizes from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Pink Line Project, Our City Film Festival, KIND Snacks and more.*
- > Beer and wine by Stella Artois, Starr Hill Brewery, and Veritas Vineyard & Winery.
- > Learn more about the future of Dupont Underground
And while the tickets are affordable and the money is going to a worthy cause (Ambassador – $150 (not available at the door); Friend – $30 ($40 at the door); Designated Driver – $20 ($30 at the door); Under 21 – $20 ($30 at the door)) we do have a FRIEND ticket to give away to this evening too.
To enter to win- leave us a comment telling us what would you like to see happen in Dupont Underground: what type of event, exhibit, business etc. The more creative the better. We’ll notify the winners by COB September 4th.
Cooperative photo store for local photographers to sell photos — small cards for tourists; large prints for home decoration. Dupont would be a perfect fit that spans both tourist and local markets, and Dupont Underground is not stranger to local photographers. Also perhaps a place to buy/sell/lease/rent camera equipment, what-with conventional camera stores disappearing.
luge competitions and a gigantic ice bar
I would like to see a show/event full of collaborative pieces between local DC artists. The event would also include a station with active and inclusive collaborations in al types of media. This will allow local artists to get to know each other and learn from one another’s work. I would also be interested in seeing an exclusive show for undergraduate emerging artists in the area. As an undergraduate emerging artist, it is difficult to get any shows or recognition and this would be a great way for the community to see what we young artists are doing and creating.
An occasional (monthly?) roller-rink art opening and live concert

Have a section where street artists paint directly on the original cement wall. A place where low brow art can have the feel of its more gritty urban home, while actually being displayed in a gallery arena such as dupont underground.
I would love it if a bunch of people came dressed as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with Splinter and Shredder along with the party. The names are artists’ names, anyway – perfect for the giveaways.
That would make it the best underground-aboveground party ever. Hm. Maybe I’LL do that.
I would like to see space for a community art/service program. Something where low-income kids and/or adults could work with local artists or other volunteers to create community art. It could be displayed in the undergroud or in other spots around DC.
It would be awesome to see an exposition of fashion and art from up and down the East Coast. We could bring the grit, glitz, and glam of NYC, the slick sensibility of Boston, the fashionistas of Florida, and the artsy anglers of Maine together for a yearly event to be hosted in the Underground’s lofty halls.
Graffiti art that is always changing, like the designated graffiti spaces in London. It keeps people coming back to see what is new. It can be terrible one week but the next it’s covered up with something fantastic.
That’s easy: Just more Margot MacDonald shows!
Urban / Street dance exhibitions like Academy of Villains or as seen in the most recent Step Up movie.
If not already in the works, someone needs to convince Bluebrain to do a location aware album for the Underground. Maybe use subterranean technology like sonar or something instead of GPS
