Ticket Giveaway: DC Week Opening Party @ 9:30 Club
November 2, 2011 | 2:45PM

DCWEEK, the District’s 2nd annual technology conference, steamrolls into town on November 4th. But before all the nerds get down to the hard work of trying to save the world with tweets, they have budgeted some time for partying.  This Friday, DCWEEK will kick off with a riotous takeover of the 9:30 Club, and a lineup of DC-only music.  BYT regulars Big/Bright,  Ra Ra Rasputin and Modern Man will be there.  So will The Silver Liners and Drop Electric…and 4 other beloved local bands.  DJ work from Que Sera/The State Department’s Aaron Baird and that lovable teddy bear of Socket Records’ Sean Peoples will keep things sweaty.  And a dedicated VIP section with open bar surely won’t hurt.

Because we love you, and you love DC, we have a pair of  tickets to the show to give away.  Each ticket is worth $25, and is made out of a discarded iPhone 3G.  (Not actually true.)  To win, tell us what piece of technology makes your world go round. Don’t say your laptop. That’s boring.  Winner will be selected by lunchtime on Friday. Use a real email address when you comment.

(And because they asked, here’s a shameless video plug for MODERN MAN)

Ps.  Here’s the full line-up for your incessantly nosey types

10:30pm: Doors Open
10:50pm: Teen Mom (listen)
11:15pm: Gregg Hammond Band (listen)
11:40pm: Modern Man (listen)
12:10pm: Ra Ra Rasputin (listen)
12:40pm: Drop Electric (listen)
1:10pm: The Silver Liners (listen)
1:40pm: Big/Bright (listen)
2:10am: Bonjourganesh (listen)

Serato. There is no better feeling than using my laptop with turntables, especially because it means I don’t carry any record crates/cd wallets around.

It would definitely have to be Siri. I never thought the day would come when artificial intelligence would be real! Just today she competed all my chores, homework, and even listened to me when I needed someone to talk to Haha. No seriously though Siri on my i4s is definitely a winner for me and has made my life so much easier in a matter of hours.

Real World Example: Shazam for your phone. This is like magic.

Imaginary Super-Power Example: The ability to use “Control-F” in real life: ie, any time you’re trying to think of a band or movie or awesome shindig and can’t recall the context (who, what, where, blah blah blah), simply control-F that ish and browse your memory for the all the hits where it came up. Context Power!

If we are going with actually physical technology I would have to say Grado headphones. Listening to them is like tasting swiss dark chocolate after eating Hersheys your whole life. They change the way music comes into my life

If we are going with a software I would have to say I love crisis mapping! Worked on projects where I used Ushahidi and other online programs to map human rights violations and election fraud in countries. Super awesome visualization tool
