Balkan Beat Box will be playing at the 9:30 Club this Friday, June 15, with openers Mucca Pazza
With a rotating cast of musicians orbiting around Israel-born New Yorkers Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat, Balkan Beat Box play all sorts of Mediterranean-inspired music that weaves together Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and New York electro. Kaplan and Muskat had cut their teeth playing in various eclectic bands before creating BBB: as a jazz saxophonist, Kaplan came to the States but explored “underground” scenes instead, mostly immigrant-driven, linking up with Gogol Bordello and others. Percussionist Muskat was a member of Firewater as well as producer in projects with Gogol Bordello. In 2005 bassist Itamar Ziegler, trombonist Dana Leong, and MC/percussionist Tomer Yosef joined BBB and released their self-titled album on Jdub Records, a label that specefically promotes Jewish artists.
If you want to win tickets, tell us, tell us who your favorite Jewish celebrity / personality is.
The obvious answer is Franz Kafka, but, a) he’s dead, and 2), I’m interested in what you can come up with.
