The Knocks, aka Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson have a certain adorable nerdy Chromeo meets Girl Talk vibe to them, lots of neatly placed samples, references you’re surprisingly pleased to hear (at some juncture last night they definitely had me screaming along to the Killers chorus “I’ve got soul but I’m not a soldier” which I didn’t expect to happen ever again in my whole life) and, in general, bring the party.
They will be @ U Street Music Hall this Thursday for this month’s edition of ALL THING GOLD and we have a pair of tickets to give away to it. YEAH. To enter to win, leave us a comment with a band we should, in your opinion, watch out for in 2012, and we’ll notify the winners by COB tomorrow. Cool? Cool.
Solid Gold.
Great talents in the upper Midwest.
Look out for New Look! Model/Singer Sarah Rubua and her talented musical husband Adam Pavao are taking over Europe with their self titles album as we speak. They call their sound FuturePop but I like to describe their sound to people as sexy synth disco thunderfuck !! Before the album drops here in the states you can check the songs out on YouTube or buy the album off K-17 like I did cause I couldn’t get enough of that voice.
Mystery Skulls. Fun indie pop stuff
Penguin Prison – (self titled)
It may have come out last year, but this is the year Chris Glover blows up.
Charli XCX, she’s on the rise, already as a guest in a lot of songs and on her own…Watch out!

(love their originals…but this cover gets me every single time.)
The Growlers!
Bad Veins! I just saw them in Cincinnati for a New Year’s Eve Eve show at The Drinkery. It was great (they sing into an old telephone/mic).
Donnis – he’s been around for a year or two, but he’s finally breaking out of his rookie stuff and developing into a good rap artists.
FRIENDS – From Brooklyn, NY – their song “I’m His Girl” is so good and the video just wants to make you party with them. Weird sound, cool grooves. Totally worth checking out.
Brooklyn NY’s “Friends.” their funky psychedelic pop is mesmerizing. Check their song “I’m his girl” and you’ll feel the need to bob your head. They are really worth checking out.
Borracho, local band that just released their debut album last month.
Look out for Lianne La Havas
