MORE THAN 600+ INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES INVOLVING OVER 200 COMPANIES IN A BUNCH OF VENUES, LOCATED ALL AROUND THE DISTRICT (BUT MAINLY AROUND FORT FRINGE)…

Naturally you’re going to need some final guidance.

The Capital Fringe Festival is currently underway!  Sure, you’ve come to our SANS POOL PARTY to show your support, read our 2011 FRINGE SURVIVAL GUIDE and perhaps started to stretch so you could see it all in 15 minutes…. but the real question is, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO SEE?!  Well, we at BYT have put the interns to work and had them select a few shows that caught their eye.  Here’s what we recommend you catch before the end of the festival this Sunday!

  • The Alice Roosevelt Longworth Project Presents: Alice, an evening with Alice Roosevelt Longworth - ”If you haven’t got anything good to say about anyone, come and sit by me.” Alice Roosevelt Longworth was the ultimate political celebrity: daughter of a President, married to the Speaker of the House. Spend time with “Washington’s other monument.” + Tito’s wife is involved so you know it’ll be great!  Show times: Thr 7/21 @ 8pm, Fri 7/22 @ 9:45pm, & Sat 7/23 @ 5:15pm at the Mountain – at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.
  • An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein - Please leave the kids at home! The beloved children’s author shows a different side in these twisted, darkly comic exposes of our human frailties that will make you laugh, even as they make you squirm. Seriously, don’t bring the kids. Show times: Wed 7/20 @ 10pm & Fri 7/22 @ 6pm at the Studio Theatre – Mead Theatre.
  • An Hour With Ken Johnson – Is this comedy? Theater? An actual motivational talk? Whatever you call it, it will change your life forever‚ maybe. Off-Broadway writer/performer Laura Zam conjures Ken Johnson. Washington Post praise for other Zam work: “Funny‚” “Smart,” “Beautiful.”  Let Ken solve your problems. Show times: Wed 7/20 @ 8pm at the Goethe Institute – Mainstage
  • Cabaret XXX: Les Femmes Fatales – Four sirens ignite the stage in this rock cabaret. These sexy songstresses will seduce you, love you, and leave you. With looks like Jessica Rabbit and voices like Joan Jett, this ain’t your mama’s femme fatale. Show times: Wed 7/20 @ 9pm & Fri 7/22 @ 6pm at the Fort Fringe – The Baldacchino Gypsy Tent Bar
  • cloudism - cloudism is an experiential theater performance which incorporates the audience directly into its production. A space is created for participants to explore, interact and experience, blending poetry, art and music into a unique theatrical happening. Witness! Experience!   • F#@KING UP EVERYTHING - Can Christian Mohammed Schwartzelberg stay true to himself and still get the girl? Or will he lose her to the guy in leather pants? Set in Brooklyn’s indie music scene, it’s a rock musical comedy with heart.   • Gallantry: a Soap Opera in One Act - What will Naughty Nurse Lola do when Dr. Gregg propositions her?  Will she stay true to her husband, the patient? Or will she give into her primal lust?  Gallantry is a soap opera complete with dancers, nudity, and advertisements. Show times: Tu. 7/19 @ 6pm at Warehouse Theatre
  • GS-14 - GS-14 is a comedy about a fed-up government manager who decides to ignore all rules so as to get the job done. He tries to fire the lazy. He tells people unwelcome truths. He’s soon in fights with almost everyone! Show times: Su. 7/24 @ 7:30pm at the Spooky Universe – Universalist National Memorial Church
  • Gypsy & the Bully Door by Nina Angela Mercer - Sara – fortune teller & member of the “We Bomb Truth Over Lies” graffiti movement – is haunted.  The City eats its residents, exiling their spirits to Sara’s apartment, while Go-Go & its Mayor BirdMan funk eternal. Show times: Tu. 7/19 @ 7:45pm Fr. 7/22 @ 6pm at Warehouse Theatre
  • Insurgent Sonata by Timothy J. Guillot - Written by emerging local playwright Timothy Guillot, Insurgent Sonata tells the story of 5 teenagers who attempt to start a revolution by killing their parents.  Together they confront abuse, find friendship, understand love, and slowly tear each other apart. Show times: Sa. 7/23 @ 12:30pm at the Wonderbox
  • life, love, sex, death…and other works in progress (a multi-chakra extravaganza) - Stevie Jay takes you on a soul-piercing, button-pushing, hilariously-uncensored journey–exploring relationships, sex, working out at the gym, working out sexual relationships at the gym and “the endless struggle to remain spiritually-oriented and irresistibly-gorgeous at all times.” A multi-chakra extravaganza! Show times: Fr. 7/22 @ 9:30pm at Fort Fringe – The Shop
  • Live Broadcast - Live Broadcast examines the relationship between Hollywood, politics, and the media. When a young conservative movie star appears on a prime time political talk show he plunges his carefully orchestrated career into jeopardy. Show times: Tu. 7/19 @ 7pm at the Wonderbox

  • Squirrel, or The Origin of a Species - A Man. A Squirrel. A Controversial Theory. The must see absurdist psychosocial thought experiment of the season.   • The Shrewing to the Tamed - Are women as funny as men?
