The Most OVERPLAYED Songs of 2011
December 21, 2011 | 10:45AM

“OVERPLAYED” is a term that is just not interpreted the same way if you’re 31 and a jaded listener of 85000 new songs every month as opposed to being a bright eyed and bushy tailed teenager who still has pop idols that are, well, just that-pop idols. So, instead of having our music team tell you ONCE AGAIN that “PUMPED UP KICKS” needs to crawl under a rock and die, we decided to ask one of our photographers, and a real live teenager Lauren Bulbin to select 15 songs SHE IS (kind of) SICK of hearing in 2011. We learned a lot from the list: that apparently Enrique Iglesias is not retired yet, that someone named Afrojack whom we’ve never heard of previously is apparently a massive star and that yes, in fact AFTER the nuclear war happens, Kesha will still be here (alongside twinkies and Cher). And no, no mention of Foster the People.

take it away Lauren:

I’ll be honest I still love all these songs, and I will probably dance my way into the New Year listening to them, but they are WAY overplayed!

15. The Show Goes On by Lupe Fiasco

14. Rolling in the Deep by Adele

13. Gucci Gucci by KreayShawn

12. Whip my Hair by Willow Smith

11. If I Die Young by The Band Perry

10. I like it by Enrique Iglesias

9. Friday by Rebecca Black

8. Take Over Control by Afrojack ft. Eva Simons

7. Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera

6. Blow by Ke$ha

5. Grenade by Bruno Mars

4. Your Love is My Drug by Ke$ha

3. Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO

2. I Love The Way You Lie by Eminem ft. Rihanna

1. Give Me Everything by Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer

And the song I hope they don’t stop playing in 2012…

I have heard exactly two of these songs (14 and 15), but I will take Lauren’s word for it that they all need to crawl under rocks (or, one very big rock) and die. Long live M83, though!
