PREVIEW: Happy Hour ShenAnniegans for a Good Cause
September 29, 2010 | 4:00PM

vAnniety kills and her parties may go by many names, but they always retain that special Annie flare. Since we started falling in love with Annie back in 2009 (when she hosted her first ladies’ happy hour at the Duplex Diner), this DJ darling has been taking DC by storm, spinning everywhere from cozy venues like Jimmy Valentine’s and Wonderland to larger venues like U Street Music Hall and even the 9:30 Club.

The Ladies of Homo Erectus-48

vAnniety kills is a sought after guest DJ and for good reason. Her solid mix of 80′s, electro, and indie dance hits is guaranteed to pull folks off the walls and onto the dance floor. But Annie, or miss lesbanAnnie as she is also known amongst the LGBT community, throws a rockin’ party herself.

Since December, vAnniety kills has hosted a monthly happy hour for queer gals which has settled upon a home at Policy on 14th Street. Despite the rumors that lesbians rarely leave the cats at home alone to go out, let alone on a weeknight, Annie’s happy hours consistently draw an impressive crowd to drink, dance and enjoy some delicious eats at Policy.

This month’s happy hour is particularly suited for the do-gooder gay’s soul. vAnniety kills will be joined DJ co-conspirators Ca$$idy and Kissette for a fundraiser for Zunaira Khalid, a member of DC’s LGBT community who was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. Although a successful amputation of her leg has left Zunaira with an excellent prognosis, ironically this med student lacks health insurance to cover the full cost of a prosthetic limb. You can read more about Zunaira’s story here, or if you want to get off your butt and help while you dance, head over to Policy this Thursday. 10% of the bar tab is being donated to the cause and you even get a chance to win a bunch of awesome auction items like:

$100 gift certificate to Policy
$75 gift certificate to Homebody
2 tickets to Capitol Queer Prom
Queer Crafter Collective gift basket
Haircut from Jenni Martinez-Moore/Bang Salon
Haircut from Frankie Sanderson
HRC designer collection package $200 value
Men’s Nautica diver’s watch, $200 value
2 tickets to the Halloween party at Jimmy Valentine’s
$50 gift certificate to Sticky Rice
… and more.
