For the past three years I have had the pleasure of enjoying, photographing and participating in the Girls Rock! DC Camper Showcase at the 9:30 Club — and this year’s showcase was exceptionally top notch! With over 60 campers making their musical debut (though some of the girls have been to camp before), you honestly can’t fathom how much energy, creativity and support fills the 1,200 person venue unless you’ve been there. For those of you unfamiliar, GR!DC, is an empowerment camp parading as a music camp, that aims to to create a supportive, inclusive and creative space for girls to develop their self-confidence, build community, stand up and rock out! It’s a pretty magical week in the lives of both campers and counselors… and I swear next year I’m going to do (even more of) my part by volunteering too. GR!DC is always looking for active helping hands, finanicial contributions and other forms of support… so why not get involved?
