There is no official record for the number of Brazilians currently living in the US. However, the DC based NGO Brazil Information Center (BIC) estimates that the Brazilian population in the US totals over one million people. According to BIC, there are at least 300,000 Brazilians in the Tri-State area, 100,000 of them located in Astoria, Queens, NY. Last weekend, thousands poured into Sixth Avenue on the corners of 42nd St. and 46th St., to celebrate Brazil’s independence day. Here are Antwone’s photos of the festivities:
