NOW-COMMENT!!!!

Perfect picnic? Probably some sort of peasant lunch with fresh bread, salami, and provolone that you can basically make a sandwich with in your mouth (mayo optional). There would be potato salad because, it’s a picnic. Gin and tonics, made in the tonic bottle. Beer that was made for limes to be put in it. Some sort of champagne would be called for if its coldness is guaranteed (this is a pretty liquid picnic, i should say). A fruit salad, or something, I guess?
Here’s the guest list: Jim Graham, Obama, Stephen King, AA Gill, Charles Stross, and Neil deGrasse Tyson are all invited.
my favorite picnic meal is Vodka!!
Classic – fried chicken, deviled eggs, sangria and watermelon pickles with my U Street Social crew
I’d invite- 300 of my closest friends, and my perfect picnic meal would contain:
• A Loaded Potato salad (yup- just like a loaded baked potato, with bacon, chives, sour cream, but colder-er and yummi-er-er)
• Barbecue Chicken
• Fried chicken
• Hot Dogs from Costco- (if you haven’t heard they are the business) with the good sweet potato rolls
• Angus Beef burgers, turkey burgers and tofu burgers with all the toppings
• Some crunchy egg rolls for my Asian Friends
• A good fresh salad with watercress (what can I say, I like watercress)
• Watermelon (forget the stereotype- it’s a picnic, so it’s gonna be hot outside!)
My perfect picnic meal would contain some yummy sandwiches or wraps, chips & dip, cheese & crackers, fruit, cupcakes for dessert, and wine!
I would invite Rachael Ray to the picnic with me after she prepares the food, so that she could lay it all out in a nice presentation and we could chow down
The perfect picnic would be with my guy whom I love telling ‘baby don’t worry you know that you got me.” to each morning before I leave to work. We’d have a full-blown, Philly inspired picnic basket filled with:
Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joe Sliders
Italian Hoagie Wraps
Vodka Infused Sliced Fruits w/ Philadelphia Cream Cheese & Pecans
Sweet & Spicy Pretzel Bites
Hertz Style Homemade Potato Chips w/ Jalapeno Ketchup
Assortment of TastyKake Snacks
Prosecco, deviled eggs, ciggarettes, caesar salad and your mom!
Picnic: Some nice kaiser roll buns, a pot of slow cooked pork bbq, some tater salad, regular salad, fresh peaches, and brownies for dessert. To drink is a mix of water and a few assorted IPAs that aren’t too hoppy and have a bit of a citrus after taste (think 90 minute). Oh and some GnTs for later.
Who would come: Mila Kunis, Tim Howard, Matt Berninger, Anthony Bourdain, and Diplo. The conversations would be pretty interesting I think.
The perfect Picnic would be a potluck off my friends favorite dishes and things they do best
Jamel- Mussels & Macaroni and 4 cheese
Me- Beer Can Chicken and communications
Teneka- Purple Elastic Thunder (alcoholic beverage)
Larry’s on- T-bone steaks
Soopa is got the wine on lock and Turkey burgers (only vegetarian)
Duffy is charge of decorations
Melanie-She has photos and documentary on lock
DJ Face- Tunes and beats
Rolllo- on jokes and shit and ice
Dani- shows up out of the blue with good energy
Antoinette- corn bread
Chef Omari- teach us grilling techniques on the bbq with some halibut
Nikki brought some fried Catfish
Jen- Brought the baked Beans
Jake- portobello mushroom
Louie-heineken’s
Jocelyn- espresso vodka and shot maker
now that I think about it. this sounds like every weekend for the past 12 years!
My perfect picnic meal must contain a Fish Fry! Who doesn’t love a good fried catfish!? We would have some homemade iced tea and definitely some pasta salad. But, also many pretentious pâtés, baguettes, and soft smelly cheeses. NUTELLA. And for the finale, a trifle. I would invite my family, friends, Oprah, and Benedict Cumberbatch.
SANGRIA. MORE SANGRIA. And then a watermelon filled with vodka, aka vodka watermelon (its a fruit, so has vitamins, right?). Gummy bears infused in vodka would be nice too.
and lots of cheese. all kinds of cheeseeee. prosciutto. and then some baguettes of course. Pate de campagne to class’y it up and french pastries (pain au chocolat, mille feuille and the like…)
and beers? cold beers for dessert.
A good group of friends is the best company.
oh. and water fight would be a nice ending to the picnic.
Perfect picnic meal would have: fried chicken of course, strawberries and fruit salad with cantaloupe and all those awesome summer fruits, chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, fresh lemonade, some really good type of cheese and really good fresh baked bread, and basically SO MUCH FOOD it would be so great
who would come with me: I would invite Danger Mouse, James Mercer, James Murphy, and Jamie XX cause like really, that would be the chillest picnic ever.
delicious picnic menu:
Sweet berry sangria
Some crunchy bread slices with olive oil
avocado mixed green salad
Spicy Chorizo
Strawberries and nutella crepe dessert
spliff
I would like this to get romantical with Blake Chesterfield Henderson from Workaholics
Ohhh where to begin….the food: a cracker/cheese/pepperoni/salami assortment that would all be held together by none other than Inglehoffer’s honey mustard (you need to know if you don’t already), pulled pork sandwiches with hawaiian bread buns, grilled caesar salad, corn on the cob topped off with Old Bay, and black bottom cupcakes!!!
The drinks: Wild Turkey honey whiskey mixed with lemonade and tea, sangria made by my homies, Ecco Domani pinot grigio, Woop Woop shiraz, Napa Smith Lost Dog red ale, and Stella Artois.
The peeps: I would of course invite my crew, they’re all a good time. I would also invite my grandmother because she’s a hoot in these kinds of settings. But celebrity-wise I would have to go with Kevin Hart, Seth Green, Sean Penn, and Zoe Saldana because she’s really hot
as master chef Kendrick Lamar says, THE Recipe should include 3 Ws. in this case we’ll say – wodka, watermelon and water fights. mimosas, sangria and cold beer are a must. for hydrating purposes. bbq smell should linger from a distance. burgers. hot dogs, popsicles – girls, you know you’ll be engorging those two. no shame.
good friends, and especially well “hydrated” friends make for the best company.
let’s grub.
Lots of cheese and lots of wine
The perfect picnic will have:
A roasted pig! some bbq ribs, coleslaw, potato salad, potato chips, and a variety of drinks from lemonade, coke, beer, Lemon Bacardi. Some ice to have with the drinks too.
I will just take everyone I can, even my grammy so she can rock those major lazer songs!!!
Items on the menu: Various fruits and veggies, a 200 count of different flavor ice pops (just because that seems ridiculous), and a few cases of Yuengling. ALSO, SOME WATER SO WE NOT TO GET DEHYDRATED.
People who I would invite: ?uestlove ,Charles Barkley, Rachel Maddow, Patton Oswalt, and whoever wants leftover ice pops.
I would bring… Lost of mini wrap with assorted meat, some bomb chicken salad. Lots of fruit salad to cool down along with some watermelon infused with vodka. Lots of chips, dips and veggies. Cupcakes… because who doesn’t like cupcakes?
If we could get some grilling action going on I would do up some kebobs. Lots of booze and water so no one passes out. And last but not least my favorite summer shot… a hollowed out strawberry, pour some amaretto in and top it off with some whip cream.
Lets see I would invite all my girls, find some guys along the way. Maybe do some twitter shout outs to see if I could get the roots, wale and kid cudi to come!!
If I were planning a picnic to have in Philly I would bring…
Snacks- Utz potato chips and soft pretzels
Main Dish- Cheese steaks with cheese wiz from both Pat’s and Genos and Italian hot sausages
Desserts- Tastykakes, peanut chews , Rits’s water ice and shoofly pie
Beer- Victory, Yingling, Yards, and Philadelphia Brewing Company
I’d also like to bring some pretty cool Philadelphians since I have such an awesome picnic set up which includes Benjamin Franklin, Boyz II Men, Grace Kelly, Will Smith, W.C. Fields and Bill Cosby. Oh and anyone else who was going to the Roots Picnic!
Perfect picnic would include:
- whiskey
- tequila
- mimosas
- Danny Brown w/ a side of Blunt after Blunt after Blunt after Blunt
- Brisket
- potato salad
- Annie Clark of St. Vincent leading picnic games
- spiked strawberry lemonade punch
- salad with some strawberries, blueberries, goat cheese, and corn
- Diplo doing stand up
- corn bread
- for dessert it would be a chocolate cake that Questlove pops out of followed by a fireworks display
- some Mac and cheese
- and to cap it off maybe Obama could sing “Let’s Stay Together”
What would be better than a day of that?
Food I would bring to the Roots picnic, you wonder? Well, it would obviously be a Philadelphia based cuisine!
Tony Luke’s Steaks
Those mammoth hoagies you can buy at wawa
Wawa mac and cheese
Kraft mac and cheese
Herr’s Chips
A huge, tasty chicken caesar salad
Vegetable fried rice and vegetable lo mein
Falafel and hummus for my friends who are vegan
Lots of fruit (watermelon, apples, oranges, etc)
Victory and Yuengling Beer, and plenty of Water as well
Butterscotch Krimpets and Peanut Butter Kandykakes from Tastykake!
Ice Cream Cake
If I could bring anybody to the picnic, I’d bring along with me Miles Davis, James Jamerson (bass player for Motown), Thom Yorke of Radiohead, Neil Young, Wayne Coyne, Jeff Tweedy, Dante (yes that Dante), Gruff Rhys, Damon Albarn, John Steinbeck, and of course Ben Franklin.
Summed up, it would be a kick ass picnic at a picnic, and seeing that it’d be going down at the Roots Picnic, it would simply be the best day ever.
I would invite Andy Griffith, Clarence Gilyard Jr. and/or Kene Holiday (depending on availability) and the rest of the cast of Matlock to my picnic. We would eat hot dogs with all of the fixings because that is Matlock’s favorite food. We would drink Country Time Lemonade. I would wear a light gray suit to match Matlock’s (most people think that his suit is seersucker; it is not). He would play banjo while I accompanied him on ukele. We would laugh together and talk about his greatest legal victories. Andy Griffith is 86 years old and I am afraid that his time here on Earth is limited. Soon he will be defending the wrongly accused in a courtroom in the clouds. Please BYT make my dream picnic with Matlock come true before it is too late.
I think people so much do not have the class or imagination anymore.
It would be like this:
http://billmurraymoviemarathon.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/00188.jpg
With perfectly made sloe gin fizzes and cold fried chicken.
And no other people anywhere around, especially anyone who has thus far commented in this thread.
The picnic spread would consist of standards with a twist: a spicy mac and cheese with gruyère, cheddar, and bacon (of course there would be bacon!), some kind of fried fish (maybe snapper instead of the typical whiting or catfish), roasted corn, braised collards, cold cuts on toasted sourdough bread with garlic mustard aioli, coleslaw, and of course, buttermilk fried chicken. Grilled watermelon and strawberries with chocolate as a desert. We’d have sangria, beer, and Kool-aid to drink.
I’d invite my three best friends and a few other favorite people of mine: Kanye, Aziz Ansari, 2 Chainz, Gotye, Pharrell, Anthony Bourdain, Jimmy Fallon, and my two fave artists from Philadelphia, Santogold and Jill Scott. All of my guests would have a LOT in common with ?uestlove and the rest of The Roots.
My perfect picnic meal would be salad, sandwiches and fruits
No need tO bring back anything home, i will focus on the show and after im tired i’ll just hop in the metro and …
I’d bring my new date
My perfect picnic is heavy on the mayo and red meat. you only live once, right?
POTATO SALAD is god’s side dish. and god loves america. and the roots.
BEER SOAKED BRAUTWURST with an emphasis on the beer. two dietary staples rolled into one. yes please.
GRILLED BELL PEPPERS…who knew vegetables could be so bad-ass?!
for the fish eaters, lemon marinated tilapia. gotsta get those omega 3z!
and finally, the alcohol. perhaps more important than the meal. plenty of IPAs, milagro tequila, maybe some bottles of merlot to get the sexy vibes going.
Who would i bring? alive: danny brown. his shameless outspoken love for the female anatomy might make the ladies uncomfortable at first, but who can say no to that face?
dead: jerry garcia. oh if only! he obviously grilled a mean sausage in his time. and if we were lucky, maybe he’d jam some tunes on the ol’ geetar.
and of course, all of my friends and their friends. and YOU!
SUMMER FOREVER!!!
Since this is Philly my picnic will most likely be taking place on blacktop just like The Roots Picnic. With that being said I would bring along countless baby pools for plenty of splishing n splashing to ensure everyone stays cool while chowing down on tasty treats and getting down to fresh beats. In a perfect world the perfect picnic would have to include a blend of hot n cold grub…Philly favorites w/everything from Italian water ice to pulled pork sandwiches. I would throw in some Yuengling beers to keep w/the Philly/PA vibe too.
As for who to invite I would love to invite that girl I saw at the last Roots Picnic but didn’t get a chance to say “what’s up” before she disappeared into the crowd;) Besides her I am down for inviting anyone and everyone because it’s SUMMERTIME in the City of Brotherly Love y’all!
Peace.
Perfect picnic would have to include: lots of (good!) cheese and crackers, fairy bread, sugar cookies, watermelon, punch and an array of cute triangular sandwiches. As for people: my best friend who just returned from a deployment, Ronan Farrow for policy talk, Thom Yorke (given he’s near by!) for music and climate talk and Gotye to reminisce over someone we used to know.
MY PERFECT PICNIC MEAL WITH THE ROOTS PICNIC CREW. Hosted naked on a beach in Ibiza in 1988 by James Murphy.
Rakim quinoa, served with Marley Marl-beque sauce,
A (De La) soul food spread,
Major Laz-agna, launched at the picnic guests from the top of a ladder by daggering strippers,
Wale floating in a kiddie pool of mumbo sauce,
A bucket of the sloppiest oysters imaginable with Danny Brown,
Kid Cudi’s THC-infused Man on the Moon-shine,
A feather-adorned, ukulele-shaped tUnE-YArDs fruitcake,
…and a five-foot-high black forest cake with dark chocolate shavings in an identical depiction of Questlove’s fro, complete with a butterscotch afro pick.
Perfect picnic would be a re-creation of this year’s mother’s day spent with (inviting) my family:
For starters: homemade french bread, home grown garlic, various types of cheese
Real Meal: organic chicken (from Trader Joe’s) inside more amazing french bread with cheese and other yummies
My invitees would be my (our) dog daughter Nomi Eileentotheright Malone Xavier-Mcloughlin/Mcloughlin/Xavier. She is missing her front right leg, we adopted her that way. My husband would be there as well. Just us three. A nice cold vodka based drink for me, and some cheese, olives, crusty tasty bread for Jeff and I. Nomi would get her favorite stinky Salmon flavored treats. Easy and simple!!
winners have been notified-check your email!
i would invite my girlfriend Erica, my best friend Casey and of course Black thought and ?uestlove so they can enjoy a great meal before they perform!!!!
The picnic spread would be an assortment and selection of the best Philly Cheesesteaks and pulled pork Sandwiches that philly has to offer!!1
wondering if i messed up my email address the first time around….oh well, congrats y’all
