Keep On Truckin: Tokyo in the City

Ladies and Gents and sushi lovers far and wide, Bento Boxes full of joy have landed in DC! Tokyo in the City—sister food truck to Wassub DC—opened its doors on October 23rd to a huge line at Metro Center touting boxes with chicken, smoked salmon and shrimp tempura options to name a few. In house hand rolls made by Min D are super delicious and crafted to perfection. I nearly broke out in dance and went with the Gangnam Style box solely for the radness of the moment but decided to contain myself and head in the direction of the Hottie box instead. Awesome choice, self.

The roll was so fresh; it’s evident that they are made to order. The Hottie: inside the roll are shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado and cucumber; outside the roll are spicy tuna and Tokyo sweet and spicy aioli. The shrimp tempura had a great crunch to it and the spicy tuna balanced with the sweet and spicy aioli was a perfect kick to finish it off. I loved the cream cheese addition—it added flavor without being too overpowering. All boxes come with a garden salad with sweet, homemade ginger dressing, shrimp shumai, fried sweet potato in honey, and an orange slice.

Be prepared for a bit of a wait—price you pay for fresh sushi on wheels, peeps, but it’s SO worth it. Bento Boxes start at $7. Tokyo in the city is still working on their website but they’re obvs in the twittersphere: @Tokyointhecity.
