So, feeling a little hot DC? How about a trip to the French Alps to cool you off? This weekend sees the opening of KABIN, a new bar/lounge on 1337 Connecticut, which is intended to project the vibe of “Discoteque meets après-ski chalet”. Said vibe, which was created by Brien Z. Watson of Invironment Design, starts with textured, charcoal-finished wood walls and continues with tanned leather banquettes and ends with drink special taken straight from the ski slopes.
We’re talking about THREE PINS here, a herbal liquor, and a classic before-the-slopes beverage, intended to warm the bones of the skier and named after the the three pins telemark skiers used to lock their boots onto their skis. The owners of the space, Kunal Shah, Vinoda Basnayake, Dustin Huynh and Rajeev Subramanian (who have EDEN and Karma by Erwin Gomez under their belts) are hoping the venue offers a “360 departure from normal DC nightlife”
We just hope that the A/C will be cranked high and there is an excuse for a fake snow party sometime in August. Now, enjoy the rest of the shots Azeez took during the VIP opening, so you know what to expect once you ski in:
