It’s sort-of a tribute week at BYT. A tribute to lounge singers and rabbits.
- Paul Anka – “Mr. Brightside“
I’ve never been a big fan of The Killers. Nor of Paul Anka. But put them together and I sort of love it.
- Jefferson Airplane – “White Rabbit”
In honor of my boyfriend doing acid this weekend while I play the role of his sober anchor, I’ve chosen Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit.” Nothing says acid trip more than Alice In Wonderland. I’m a little nervous about the entire experience. He assures me everything will be fine, but if you don’t hear from me again then be on the lookout for someone wearing only pajama bottoms (him) having a discussion with a severed head (me).
- Dillon Francis – “Without You” Feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs
Dillon Francis, the in-joke of the electronic music scene (seriously, multiple tumblrs put his face on everything), teamed up with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs to produce a surprisingly sensitive track. Known best for pumping up festival crowds with moombahton, Francis and TEED created the first EDM track that could make it onto a break-up mix.
- Fiona Apple – “Hot Butter”
Paul Thomas Anderson revisits a year-old album with a simple, beautiful series of close-ups of Apple. God damn, Apple is amazing.
Proof that it’s possible to be friends with your ex. Or not. Maybe they hate each other. Whatever. This song is amazing. This video ain’t too bad.
- LCD Soundsystem – “Home”
Shut Up And Play The Hits! is currently streaming on Netflix. That means I’ve been watching the LCD Soundsystem doc/concert film at a very loud volume, very late at night.
