GIVEAWAY: YOUTH LAGOON @ 930 CLUB
August 27, 2013 | 3:00PM

Youth Lagoon, or Trevor Powers to his friends, bases his music around the idea of psychological dysphoria. He uses his songs to sort out his thoughts and make sense of the vast emotional world within ourselves. Whew, that is some deep shit. Gone are the days of writing in your diary while laying in bed, staring at your bedroom ceiling with Jeff Buckley’s Grace on repeat.

Oh man, definitely Nevermind and Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Regular teen angst intensified by the fact that those records were released 10 years+ before my angsty phase.

Drum roll… there are actually 2 albums that I consumed as a teen and still listen to these days. Both I think would qualify as my “go-to teen angst album”… they are Surfer Rosa by the Pixies & “The Blue Album” by Weezer ( or the 1994 album).
