If you’ve been waiting for an Italian option along 14th Street, your wait is over. Ghibellina, Logan Circle’s new Italian Gastro Pub, is proving to be every bit as intimate, authentic and mouthwatering as you’d ever expect from the Owners of Acqua al 2, Ari Gejdenson and Ralph Lee. Take a step into the warmly-lit trattoria and smell the rossi–along with the tantalizing scents that accompany a menu rife with stewed, baked, wood-fired and roasted pizzas, tender meats and pastas.

Drawn from their days living in Firenze, the duo ensures that their menu and dining experience is traditional, done well. On a daily basis the two would eat lunch at their favorite restaurant, Trattoria Mario, and fell in love with the idea of creating a comfortable place where diners feel at home every time they walk through the door.
Even the name is authentic, lifted from the street where both Gejdenson and Lee opened an American diner and shared an apartment at the opposite end of the street; according to Lee, Via Ghibellina was one of the only streets they traveled for quite some time. Executive Chef Jonathan Copeland (formerly of Society Fair) matches their dedication to executing an authentic Tuscan menu, traveling to Florence to get every last bit of the menu right.
Though the menu is subject to change, we’re salivating over pizza toppings like wood-fired onions, pea shoots and culatello, as well as dishes like braised veal, shellfish stew and their charcuterie plates. And in the best news for brunchers, Copeland is excited to unveil his weekend brunch menu soon, including a variety of baked egg dishes and sandwiches made on grilled pizza dough.
There’s no reason not to pop in this weekend (hello, new favorite date spot) though be warned; if you’re thinking of dining with a large party, the restaurant takes reservations for parties of 8-12 only two seatings a night–though we’d be content to just perch at that gorgeous bar all evening, ourselves.
